Description:

Did you ever feel like you need a quick visual of rulers at war (that is, easier to loot or to defeat in war); regions that are already massively raided; provinces that are better to defend or attack; military strength of rulers and their allies? Then you might like this adaptation of Map Modes GUI to the needs of warring and raiding lords.

It can be used (always loaded after) with Family Matters, T4N Tributaries Framework, and/or Silk Road (see below).

New Map Modes

Code and some buttons are taken from the Map Modes GUI mod.

They are currently all Static maps: They will only reload if you click again on the button.

These are the added map modes:

Static map of counties at war.

  • Domains of rulers at war in red, occupied domains in orange.
  • Domains of vassals of rulers at war in purple, occupied domains in pink.
  • Castles and tribal holdings have stronger colors.
  • Provinces without holdings have lighter colors.
  • Provinces with other holding types show intermediate tones.

Static map of raidable holdings.

  • Provinces with raidable holdings in color.
    • Estimated Loot is represented from Light Yellow (lesser loot) to Dark Orange (greatest loot) in increasing ranges.
    • Loot is estimated from Vanilla’s base amount (monthly income * 12), so the actual loot may vary depending on modifiers.
  • Provinces with raided holdings in black.
  • Provinces without holdings in light grey.

Static map of fortifications and fort level.

  • Provinces with fortifications (castles or tribal holdings) in red.
  • Fort level shown with increasingly darker red (evaluates up to level 10).
  • Provinces without fortifications in grey.

Static map of rulers with artifacts.

  • In dark orange, capital barony of independent ruler with artifacts.
  • Their other domains, in light yellow.
  • In light orange, capital barony of other rulers with artifacts
  • Their other domains, in lighter yellow.

Static map of military strength of independent rulers and their vassals.

  • Colors show proportion of military strength relative to your own.
  • Your domain, in white.
  • Domains of rulers with greater military strength, in increasingly darker red.
  • Domains of rulers with lesser military strength, in increasingly darker yellow.

Static map of county control

  • Colors show amount of county control.
  • Closer to Absolute control, in yellow.
  • Less than 95, it starts with light greyish/white and progresses to darker red tones.
  • Closer to 0 is closer to black.

Static map of alliances and truces:

  • In green, your own domains.
  • Domain of vassals allied to you, in darker green.
  • Domain of your allies, in blue.
  • Domain of your truces, in red.
  • Domain of other independent rulers without alliances, in yellow.
  • Domain of other independent rulers with alliances, in gray.

Static map of tributaries and suzerains.
Uses code from T4N: Typical’s Tributaries Framework, you need to have the mod installed for it to work.

Dynamic map of winter severity by province. Updates every month.
Uses the code from Silk Road, but you do not need to have the mod installed for it to work.

Static maps of domains held by rulers with family lineage or patrilineage traits.
Buttons to access the map modes of Family Matters (matrilineages and relatives included under More Map Modes).

Other map modes include:

  • Physical: physical terrain.
  • Diplomacy: diplomatic range.
  • Matrilines: static map of domains held by rulers with matrilineage traits.
  • Relatives: static map of domains held by rulers with family marks.
  • Trade Routes: dynamic map from Silk Road. It only works if the mod is installed.

Compatibility
  • Might conflict with mods that change map modes, depending on load order. To maximize compatibility, you should load this mod after all others.
  • You must start a new game.
  • It might work for multiplayer. Let me know if you try it.
Languages
  • English + Spanish maintained by me.
  • Simplified Chinese by 可期 (see discussion).
  • Russian by YD (NaltarOrion) here.
  • Usable with other languages (German, Russian, French, Korean) but not translated.
Suggestions

You might want to try out War Maps in combination with these other mods (whose added difficulty led me to develop this one), in case you didn’t know them:

Reuse

You can make your own mod from this one, but please credit then also the original creators of the Map Modes GUI and Winter Severity (see below).

I tried to make all map modes work in Observer mode, but I only got one of them to work at a time (probably a global variable issue), so I got tired and desisted. Old files with ‘_observer.info’ are copies of their equivalents ‘.txt’ for anyone to continue, including code for dynamic updates of fortification and lineage maps.
