Historical Context:

Year five emperors:

The Year of the Five Emperors was 193 AD, in which five men claimed the title of Roman emperor: Pertinax, Didius Julianus, Pescennius ♥♥♥♥♥, Clodius Albinus, and Septimius Severus. This year started a period of civil war when multiple rulers vied for the chance to become Caesar.

The political unrest began with the murder of Emperor Commodus on New Year’s Eve 192 AD. Once Commodus was assassinated, Pertinax was named emperor, but immediately aroused opposition in the Praetorian Guard when he attempted to initiate reforms. They then plotted his assassination, and Pertinax was killed while trying to reason with the mutineers.[1] He had only been emperor for three months. Didius Julianus, who purchased the title from the Praetorian Guard, succeeded Pertinax, but was ousted by Septimius Severus and executed on June 1. Severus was declared Caesar by the Senate, but Pescennius ♥♥♥♥♥ was hostile when he declared himself emperor.[2] This started the civil war between ♥♥♥♥♥ and Severus; both gathered troops and fought throughout the territory of the empire. Due to this war, Severus allowed Clodius Albinus, whom he suspected of being a threat, to be co-Caesar so that Severus did not have to preoccupy himself with imperial governance. This move allowed him to concentrate on waging the war against ♥♥♥♥♥.[1] Most historians count Severus and Albinus as two emperors, though they ruled simultaneously. The Severan dynasty was created out of the chaos of 193 AD.[2]

Mesopotamian campaing:

In early 197 Severus left Rome and sailed to the east. He embarked at Brundisium and probably landed at the port of Aegeae in Cilicia,[37] travelling on to Syria by land. He immediately gathered his army and crossed the Euphrates.[38] Abgar IX, titular King of Osroene but essentially only the ruler of Edessa since the annexation of his kingdom as a Roman province,[39] handed over his children as hostages and assisted Severus’ expedition by providing archers.[40] King Khosrov I of Armenia also sent hostages, money and gifts.[41]

Severus travelled on to Nisibis, which his general Julius Laetus had prevented from falling into Parthian hands. Afterwards Severus returned to Syria to plan a more ambitious campaign.[42] The following year he led another, more successful campaign against the Parthian Empire, reportedly in retaliation for the support it had given to Pescennius ♥♥♥♥♥. His legions sacked the Parthian royal city of Ctesiphon and he annexed the northern half of Mesopotamia to the empire;[43][44] Severus took the title Parthicus Maximus, following the example of Trajan.[45] However, he was unable to capture the fortress of Hatra, even after two lengthy sieges – just like Trajan, who had tried nearly a century before. During his time in the east, though, Severus also expanded the Limes Arabicus, building new fortifications in the Arabian Desert from Basie to Dumatha.[46]

Changelog:

1- Roman units, emperors and generals total reskin

2- Size increased( Startpos and campaign,Infantry 400 cavalry 200)

3- The starting position of some barbaric kingdoms has been changed to represent a more historically accurate scenario. Osroene has been added.

4- Diplomatic effects have been changed so now small factions will respect bigger ones, getting into deals easily. This wants to reproduce the real situation of the epoch where the small barbarian kingdoms tended to respect the more powerful Rome even if they had periodic wars. All roman factions share culture so as well with the other diplomatic changes you could be able to join another roman faction wihout conquering entirely.

5- Ai improvement, more changeling campaign where the Ai will be more aggressive. Nevertheless, this in hand with point 4 will reproduce in global, harder wars with the Ai but less common. So to win a war against will be harder than in vanilla but you will have wars with fewer factions( if you use diplomatics wisely)

6- 24 turns per year

7- New battle system with more realistic morale system as well as slower combat. The spacing of the German factions has been increased and the one of the Romans decreased, trying to reproduce a more historically accurate situation. I have just transpose one of my battle mods to this one, you can see the entire battle changelog here:
