About VIA Rail’s Budd Streamliners

Originally built in the 1950s for Canadian Pacific, these stainless steel cars continue to operate today on Canada’s Passenger Rail Network under VIA Rail on long-distance and rural routes. The fleet includes Coaches, Baggage Cars, Sleeper Cars, Diners, Mid-train "Skyline" dome cars, and Dome-Observation "Park" cars. Today, these cars are hauled by VIA’s F40PH locomotives. Each of these has been recreated within Stormworks and assembled into 4 realistic consists for you to use and explore.

The Canadian is VIA’s Flagship train, running from Vancouver to Toronto over a 4-day route. This is the last regularly operating Streamliner in North America, and has been featured on the Canadian $10 Bill. The train can stretch to over 30 cars during busy seasons!

The Hudson Bay operates from Winnipeg to Churchill in Manitoba, linking tiny communities with no road access. It is a lifeline to the northern communities that it serves.

The Skeena operates a scenic route through the Canadian rocky mountains, providing access to remote cabins and getaways.

Corridor trains operate high-speed, frequent services between Canada’s large cities in Southern Ontario and Quebec. While original Budd equipment is rare, they occasionally make it into service on these short runs.

Physics Lag Warning

While every attempt has been made to optimise these trains, The Canadian still pushes the boundaries of physics and CPU capabilities. On North-South or East-West track in the ocean, The Canadian can achieve 50+ TPS. However, on diagonals or when near terminals this performance can and will degrade to 30 TPS or less (I.E. Slow Motion). In Tunnels, performance decreases further to 10-15 TPS (Extreme Slow Motion). Operating a loaded Canadian through tunnels is NOT recommended.

Also note that a switcher locomotive may be required to disassemble The Canadian, as it may not fully fit all Stormlink terminal stations. It is recommended that you use The Hudson Bay or Skeena for Stormlink, as these trains will give better physics performance. Endo Terminal should also give the best performance for spawning these trains.
