Description:

Based loosely off the WWII German Type XXIII. I’ve tried to keep it somewhat realistic, within the confines of StormWorks. Only two torpedoes, so you will not be single handedly winning any wars, but she can be fun.

Specs:

LOA: 34.75m
Beam: 3.25m
Draft (surfaced):3.25m
Displacement (surfaced): 17475.49
Cost: $150806

Main Controls:

  1. Sonar Station – Arrows sweep sonar, the large dial shows the sonar heading with aligned with the bow being straight up. When a contact is found a light will illuminate and the bar gauge will show signal strength. A ping will also be heard. No range is provided.
  2. Aft Dive Planes Station –The instruments, from top to bottom are, current depth (at deck), Aft planes position, Dive Angle (down is zero), Bow planes position, at the bottom is depth below the keel.
  3. Battery Level Indicators
  4. Bow Planes Station – Instruments are the same as Aft Dive Planes Station
  5. Auto depth Control – This overrides the planes control seats. Enter depth (set as a positive number) on the keypad and push the toggle button to activate. 4 is a good setting for the snorkel.
  6. Stern Ballast Tank Controls – Top button floods the tank; bottom button empties the tank. Neutral buoyancy is achieved when the tank is filled so the red and white indicators overlap.
  7. Snorkel Control – use arrows to raise/lower the snorkel. Gauge show position.
  8. Bow Ballast Tank Controls – Same as Stern Ballast tank controls.
  9. Fuel Efficiency of Diesel Engine – Clockwise from top left; Distance remaining, Time remaining, L/Km, L/min
  10. Fuel Gauge
  11. Battery Efficiency – Clockwise from top left; Distance remaining, Time remaining, units/Km, units/min
  12. Bow Planes Control Seat – This seat controls the bow dive planes with W/S. When the aft planes station is unoccupied you can control them with the up/down arrow keys.
  13. Aft Dive Planes Control Seat – This seat controls the aft dive planes with W/S.

Other controls:
  • Periscope – use mouse to look around, W/S to raise/lower scope, 6 to zoom, 1 to fire port torpedo, 2 to fire starboard torpedo (doors must be opened first). At some points the scope control and camera can become desynchronized, use the left/right arrow keys to realign them (align the monitor with the bow and use the arrow keys to center the bow in the view).
  • Torpedo Controls – Flip switches open the respective door and illuminates the light below to indicate the door is open. Button fires the respective torpedo.
  • Light switches – in the torpedo room, helm, and engine room are button that will cycle all the lights in the boat, Off > Day > Night.
  • Helm – Wheel controls the rudder, there is a rudder indicator (down is centered), Speedometer in Knots and throttle control, use the up and down arrows on the panel to change forward speed. The flip switch enters reverse. In reverse any throttle setting other than zero will cause the same reverse speed.
    Speeds by throttle (surfaced/submerged):
    • Slow: 2/3
    • Medium: 5/8
    • Full: 10/18
    • Flank: 15/25
  • There is also a map/autopilot (Mr NJersey) use the keypad to enter up to 8 waypoints, flip the switch to activate the autopilot. Autopilot is not tied into throttle so it may circle the last waypoint you enter.
  • Engine Room – To start the generator, turn the key, hold the starter button until the engine starts. Throttle minimum setting (0.35) will provide a net positive charge slow speed (2 bars). 0.40 throttle setting will provide a net positive change while running at medium speed (4 bars). 0.45 throttle will provide net positive charge at full speed (6 bars). Full throttle (0.65) will not provide a net positive change at flank speed (all 8 bars) and will overheat in a few minutes. Generator overheat will trigger an alarm. Throttle settings under 0.50 should not overheat. Full throttle can be used in short bursts to recharge batteries faster.

The torpedoes are complete trash, hopefully HQ will develop better one soon!
