Rotodyne
This is a hybrid helicopter turboprop.Unlike the original, my rotors are shaft drive.
The easiest way to learn to operate is to watch the included videos above.
Features:
- Diesel APU (auxiliary power unit)
- Ground idle, flight, and max power turbine settings
- Ground service panel: refueling and ground power
- Stormlink compatable. 48 seats set up to use with stormlink.
- Module compatibility: container handling module, fire fighting module, winch module, Bambi bucket
- Airstairs
- Clam shell rear doors
- >8800 gallons of jet fuel
- >500nm range @ 100% prop pitch
- >3hr endurance @ 100% prop pitch
- Alt hold
- Heading hold
- ADF navigation system
Start up procedure
- Master power
- Avionics power
- Select both batteries
- Select both generators
- Turn on APU
- Turn on beacon
- Select ground idle
- Select port start/stop
- After port light off select starboard start/stop
- After turbines are stabilized and props and rotors are turning shut off APU
Taxi procedure
- Release parking brake
- Slowly advance prop pitch with the 1 key
- Brake test. Reduce prop pitch with the 2 key. Apply brakes with the down arrow
- Release brakes (let go of down arrow)
- Increase prop pitch (1) or use rotor pitch (w) to move forward.
- Steer withe nose wheel (Lt,Rt arrows)
Vertical takeoff
- Turn on nav and strobe lights. Landing taxi and logo as necessary
- Deselect ground idle button
- Allow turbine rpm to increase
- "Optional" Enable gyro (AP button)
- Increase collective ( up arrow)
- Above 50′ agl raise gear verify transit (amber) and (Red) storage
- To move forward either use rotor pitch (W,S) or increase prop pitch
Horizontal takeoff
- Turn on nav and strobe lights. Landing taxi and logo as necessary
- Verify brake application is zero (dial)
- Advance prop to 10%
- Rotate at 60 knots. Use collective as necessary.
- Above 50′ agl raise gear verify transit (amber) and (Red) storage
Cruise
- Set prop pitch for desired speed and cruise
- Turn off landing and taxi lights
Auto pilot
- Select AP master
- Enter desired heading into keypad. (0) disables heading hold
- Enter desired altitude into keypad. (0) disables altitude hold
- Disabling AP master with disengage all AP modes and gyro
ADF navigation system
- Place a waypoint on the map
- Enter waypoint into the keypad
- Direction needle will point directly to the waypoint
- Distance dial will show distance to waypoint in NM
- Time to waypoint dial will show time in minutes. A negative time means you are moving away.
- Proximity indicator will flash when you are within .5NM of the waypoint
- Heading to waypoint will show the heading you need to turn to to reach the waypoint. Digital number.
Prop settings
- 35% prop is best speed. Enable max available power for increased turbine rpm for greatest speed. (>5800gph)
- 100% prop is best economy and endurance. This Will put load on the turbines and decrease RPM to between 500 and 600 RPM. This will reduce your speed but also greatly increase your efficiency. This will cause a burn rate of >2200 gph
- Control your speed with prop pitch.
- Reducing prop pitch to 0% will allow you to hover.
Vertical landing procedure
- Initiate a hover
- Verify that neither ground idle nor Max available RPM are selected
- Use the down arrow on the keyboard to reduce collective.
- Lower gear gear should go into transit amber and then green indicating all gear are down unlocked. If gear is not showing three green, recycle.
- Turn on landing on taxi lights
- Once you have touched down enable ground idle. Turn off: nav, strobes, and landing lights.
Horizontal landing
- Verify that neither Max available RPM or ground idle are selected
- Maintain approach speed of about 120 knots
- Lower gear. Gear should go into transit amber and then green indicating all gear are down unlocked. If gear is not showing three green, recycle.
- Turn on landing and taxi lights
- Further slow as desired
- Touchdown conventionally with the mains then the nose.
- Reduce prop pitch to zero
- Use down arrow to apply brakes gently tap if they lock.
- Once you’ve come to a stop enable ground idle turn off: landing lights, nav, and strobe lights
Shut down procedure
- Turn off taxi light and logo
- Apply parking brake
- Verify ground idle
- Select both port and starboard start/stop switches
- If you intend to stay powered up start APU or connect ground power
- Turn off beacon
- If you intend to complete shutdown deselect generators port and starboard
- Deselect batteries port and starboard
- Deselect avionics master
- Deselect master power
APU Access
- APU Access is on the starboard nose.
- Look at the nose wheel gear door
- Flip switch. The APU door will open. From here you can fill the APU tanks with diesel.
Ground service panel
- Open panel from the port main gear bay. Flip switch to open ground service door.
- Connect hose and flip pump switch to fill both tanks. Single point refueling.
- Connect power cable and flip switch to enable ground power
