History:
The XF5U was the brainchild of Charles H. Zimmerman. This aircraft most known as the Flying Flapjack was a more refined version of the Vought V-174 (Coming soon?) that was nicknamed the Flying Pancake that was an earlier design made of wood and canvas. The Flapjack was all metal and used two Pratt & Wittney R-2000 Radial engines to power its large propellers. The Flapjack was designed as a STOL (Short Takeoff and Landing) aircraft with as little as 200m of runway needed to takeoff properly.
