Description:

Update: RMMVCOM-LP has been superseded by the RMMV BIM-5F Missile System

The RMMVCOM-LP is a complete surface-to-air, surface-to-ground missile system consisting of an RMMVCOM Radar Command Vehicle and two RMMV-LP Remote Launch Platforms with modified BLUFIN missiles. The RMMVCOM-LP system is designed to traverse rough terrain in remote locations in order to detect, track, and engage targets.

Tracking Modes:

Mode – Hotkey
Description

PingPong Yaw Scan – 1
Ping-pongs the radar laterally to increase refresh rate of a set scan heading. Use the Long Range flip switch to slow the ping-pong rate for distant targets.

Lock Yaw – 2
Disables auto-rotate and locks the radar yaw-axis to the contact heading

PingPong Pitch Track – 3
Ping-pongs the radar vertically to attempt to maintain a target lock. Useful for when a moving contact is beyond the range of the Yaw Lock, >2km.

Lock Pitch – 4
Disables auto-rotate and locks the radar pitch-axis to the contact heading (limited range of <2km)

Missile Guidance Modes:

Mode
Description

Active Homing
Uses the missile’s on-board radar to detect and guide the missile to its target. Best for slow, small targets like helicopters, or targets difficult to get a solid ground lock. Fails back to semi-active if a lock is lost by the missile.

Semi-Active Homing
Uses the radar command vehicle’s radar and relays target coordinates to the missile. Best for stronger signal, faster moving targets. Will power off on-board radars on the missile for reduced detection / ability to countermeasure.

Limitations:
The RMMVCOM-LP Radar-Guided Missile System pushes the limits of what is possible in Stormworks with its current implementation of radar. The system has its limitations and drawbacks because of this. There is still room for improvement, and my hope is that others take this idea and run with it, expanding upon this or developing new methods to track and engage air targets. I’m releasing this as-is.

Known Issues:
It’s recommended to pack the radar dish prior to saving your game. Sometimes loading from a save will cause it to glitch in a way that gets the radar mast stuck. For v1.2+ Later versions of Stormworks have changed SRB thrust, weight, and duration significantly. To get these older missiles to work on v1.2+, try reducing their thrust to 5-10%. That’s the best I’ve got. A redesign is needed to account for changes in weight, etc. The missile guidance is all correct, it’s just the missile body itself that’s been thrown off by the changes.
