RMMV BIM-5F | Radar-Guided Missile System
The RMMV BIM-5F Radar-Guided Missile System is an ACLOS, look-down-shoot-down surface-to-air, surface-to-ground missile system consisting of an RMMV Heavy Utility Chassis and four BIM-5F "Marlin" ZEM-APN Guided Missiles. The RMMV BIM-5F is designed to traverse rough terrain in remote locations in order to detect, track, and engage targets.
Compared to the older RMMVCOM-LP, efforts have been made to make the RMMV BIM-5F faster to deploy and easier to use, with more effective and more compact missiles. It represents a revolution in capabilities over the RMMVCOM-LP and older systems.

Driver’s Hotkeys:
The system will detect the strongest signal target within range. The HUD overlay will show the target’s relative location on the display, along with the target’s distance from the launch vehicle in meters.
Once target Follow Tracking is engaged (seat hotkey 1), the radar will narrow its FoV from Seek to Track mode and attempt to follow the target, dynamically adjusting the FoV to keep the selected target locked. A firing solution is actively computed based on target metrics to give operators feedback on the optimal time to launch and the number of missiles to launch to ensure a hit. While the Firing Solution is not quite a "chance to hit", it is comparable. A solution of 35% will likely require 3 launched missiles to get a successful dead-on hit. The BIM-5F is a "Shoot Down" weapon that rides the radar to the target, requiring a steady radar lock to guide the missile.
Warheads are detonated by proximity fuse or a direct hit.
As of Update 9, the RMMV BIM is equipped with a surveillance radar that continuously scans the skies and detects threats up to 5km away. It will notify the operator which direction targets are located in with a left/right arrow on the display, along with the distance to the detected threat.
The RMMV BIM-5F Radar-Guided Missile System pushes the limits of what is possible in Stormworks with its current implementation of radar, which is finicky at best. The system has its limitations and drawbacks because of this. I’m not sure how well the missiles will track in multiplayer–they move very fast and server latency may disrupt tracking. Turning down their thrust might help if that’s the case.
There is still room for improvement, and my hope is that others take this idea and run with it, expanding upon this or developing new methods to track and engage air targets. I’m releasing this as-is, but I do welcome feedback 🙂
