Description:

The submarines of Project 627 (627A) "Kit" are the first Soviet nuclear submarines. In fact, only the lead ship, K-3 Leninsky Komsomol, belonged to Project 627, and all subsequent ones were built according to the modified project 627A. Designed and built these ships SKB-143, later known as SPMBM "Malachite".

As a result of the creation of nuclear submarines of Project 627, the USSR became the second power in the world to have a nuclear submarine fleet. The ships of Project 627-627A had outstanding characteristics for their time, but they also had significant shortcomings that were corrected in subsequent projects.
