Description:

The NORTE 6100 series were the first 3000V electric locomotives used in Spain. The mechanics of the locomotives were design by Baldwin and the electric systems were built by Westinghouse. Between 1923 and 1924 the components were shipped to Spain and assembled by the SECN, the Spanish shipbuilder company. They were used on the Pajares line, one of the hardest mountain passes in the north of Spain.
With a power of 1230kW and a max speed of 60 km/h, those locomotives replaced the steamers that tried to pull heavy coal trains on the mountain ramps. After the creation of the State company RENFE the locomotives preserved their original numbers and after the introduction of UIC numbering the series was renamed as RENFE 261.

They remained on the original line until the early 60s when some of the locomotives were moved to other areas and used for other purposes such as infrastructure services.
the whole series were retired on the late 80s after more than 60 years on service. Nowadays the NORTE 6101, first of the series, is preserved at the Madrid National Railway Museum.

The catenary used by the NORTE company is now available on the RENFE track pack by Kaminary:
