CIWL Orient Express and Venice-Simplon Orient Express set
Started on 1883, the Orient Express became the most iconic service realized by the Compangie Internationale des Wagons-Lits became. Originaly knew as the Express d’Orient, the first route, was from Paris, Gare de l’Est, to Giurgiu in Romania via Munich and Vienna. On June 1891, the remaned as Orient Express finally reached Istambul, at that time knew as Constantinople.
After a breakdown on services due to World War I, a second route for the Orient Express was added, via Milan, Venice and Trieste, the known as Simplon-Orient Express. This service the most popular route during 20s and 30s. On the 30s the Lx CIWL coaches, which were the most luxury coaches used on the CIWL were introduced on the routes, adquiring the Orient Express its reputation as luxury train. On 30s three different services were running at same time, the original Orient-Express, the Simplon-Orient Express and the Arlberg Orient Express, via Zürich and Budapest.
On 1939, as most of the CIWL services, the Orient Express stop running untill 1946. On the following year conflicts between Yugoslavia, Greece and Turkey forced to stop some of the services serveral times. On 1962 the Original Orient Express and the Arlberg Orient Express stop running and the Simplon service were renamed as Direct Orient-Express.
In 1971, the Wagon-Lits company stopped running carriages itself. Instead, it sold or leased all its carriages to the various national railway companies, but continued to provide staff for the carriages. After that, the CIWL coaches were replaced by daily coaches. At 19th May 1977 the last Direct Orient Express runned between Paris and Istanbul, being the end of the original services. Otherwise the name remained in use for some intercity services offered by the national companies.
In 1982, the Venice-Simplon Orient Express was established as a private venture, running restored 1920s and 1930s carriages from London to Venice. The coaches were modernized addding new interiors and replacing the original bogies, increassing the top speed of the coaches. Nowadays this service still running with a stupid-high price between London and Venice.
This mod add the 1930s Lx series CIWL coaches with Orient-Express destination plattes and the 1980s modernized coaches used for the Venice-Simplon Orient Express.
