Description:
Introduction

This mod attempts to bring some life into Total War 3 Kingdom’s combat by applying some matched animations into some units in the game. These animations are basically just borrowed from the dueling animations that 3K generals have.

What does this mod do?

With this mod, it will enable the selected units to perform the fancy combat animations and finishers used by generals, as well as engage in matched combat when said units fight each other.

WARNING *Please Read*

From what I’ve noticed, applying these animations to a lot of units seem to be pretty taxing on performance so proceed with caution. This is probably why CA simplified the animations for 3K’s combat.

And another thing, and probably most important of all, these added animations can impact game balance. Some animations for example have hardcoded AOEs and knock backs that can change the outcome of some unit matchups.

***

Currently, affected units that have new animations are as follows (separated per culture/faction):

  • Pearl Dragons
  • Protectors of Heaven
  • Imperial Gateguards
  • Zhanmajian Infantry*

Yuan Shu

Ma Teng

  • Qiang Warriors

Bandits

* ** If you don’t mind, the greatsword infantry’s hands clip through their weapon when holding it because there are no animations for greatswords yet. They are also holding the swords by the blade since the handle isn’t long enough. Personally, the way they swing the greatswords using the animations used by generals and heroes look too satisfying for me to pass this up. But if you don’t like it, feel free to tell me as I’ll make this a separate version from what I’m using.

So far most spear/polearm units are largely unaffected since I feel they would look awkward fighting other units in one-on-one duels as opposed to fighting in formation. Likewise, I also didn’t touch shielded units for the same reason, and mostly because generals do not have dedicated animations that allows for the use of a shield that I could use as a template.
