Imperial Guards
This MOD adds several new Men-at-Arms for China and Rome, and modifies some vanilla Men-at-Arms. The specific contents will be listed below.
Byzantine/Greek heritage cultures can now get their own special gunpowder Men-at-Arms after unlocking the Fire Medicine innovation: Greek Fire, see the Gunpowder Men-at-Arms section for details.
The Legionary Innovation can now been unlocked in the Tribal, and unlock two types of Men-at-Arms: Comitatenses and Praetorians. Praetorians can only be recruited by the Roman Emperor.
A new Palatine Guard Innovation is added, which unlocks two types of Men-at-Arms: Palatini and Scholares. The Palatini can only be recruited by the Roman Emperor, and the Scholares can only be recruited within the title army of the Roman Emperor.
All the Men-at-Arms mentioned above have newly drawn icons.
The complete MAA data table is as follows:
The Men-at-Arms unlocked by the Art of War Tradition will receive the following adjustments:
- Black Armoured Cavalry: Heavy Cavalry with a size of 100, and numerical values similar to Horse Archers.
- Burenjia Infantry: Added 0.5x Counter against Heavy Infantry, with corresponding numerical increases.

- Shenbigong: Added 0.5x Counter against Horse Archers, increased recruitment cost.
The Art of War tradition additionally unlocks two new soldiers: Imperial Banzhi and Chinese Militia.
Imperial Banzhi: unlocked by The Art of War tradition. They are elite Heavy Infantry, can only be recruited within the title army of the Chinese Emperor, powerful but expensive;
Tuanlian Militia: unlocked by a new innovation. They are cheap Skirmishers, similar to the Roman Akritai. Only can be recruited by Dukes/Counts.
Tiefutu Cavalry: Unlocked by vanilla innovation. They are the Jurchen heavy cavalry has had its stats increased and its recruitment cost reduced.
The Repeating Crossbow Innovation is renamed to Vertical Crossbows to ensure historical accuracy (at least the Repeating Crossbow should not appear here) and moved to Early Medieval era (Han culture unlocks it by default in 1066);
The Composite Crossbow Innovation unlocks the Crossbowmen Men-at-Arms and the Crossbowmen Accolades (Han and Tangut cultures unlock it by default in 867).
The complete Men-at-Arms data table is as follows:
The Fire Medicine innovation will unlock different gunpowder Men-at-Arms depending on the culture. Specifically, East Asian cultures will unlock Fire Lancers, Greek heritage cultures will unlock Greek Fire, and the remaining cultures will unlock Handgunners.
The data of the three types of Men-at-Arms have been rebalanced. It should be noted that Fire Lancers will be strengthened with each era.
The Gunpowder innovation will still unlock Handgunners for all cultures, and at the same time will provide a modifier of Damage 6/Toughness 2/Screen 5 for gunpowder Men-at-Arms to ensure that the strength of late-game gunpowder Men-at-Arms remains consistent with the vanilla game.
