Description:
No more game breaking animation mods!

A visual-focused animation submod for Divide et Impera designed to improve how combat looks and feels without changing gameplay balance. It refines animation behavior across all units to make battles more impactful, readable, and visually consistent. The goal is not to rebalance combat, but to enhance visual fidelity. Unlike every other animation mods (which adds a ♥♥♥♥ ton of damage or set matched_combat to 100), all changes are strictly animation-based, preserving unit stats, damage values, and core mechanics exactly as they are in DeI.

Tweaks & Stuff
  • Cohesive & Dynamic Battle Lines: Removed pushback animations and replaced them with two alternative variants to improve visual variety and cohesion. Units are now less likely to break formation and surge individually into enemy ranks, resulting in more stable frontline engagements. Pushback still occurs, but it is now expressed at the unit level rather than per individual soldier, creating a wave-like motion across the battlefield instead of a rigid, straight line.
  • Secondary Attack Tweaks: Overhauled secondary attack animations for all units by replacing them with matched combat animations. Attacks now appear faster, heavier, and brutal, improving the overall sense of impact during combat.
  • Matched Combat Stuff: Fixed and removed instances of matched combat animations ending abruptly, resulting in smoother transitions and greater visual consistency during engagements.
  • Animation Based on Weapon: Animations are now adjusted based on weapon type, ensuring each unit uses combat style that match their equipment.
  • No Hidden Stat ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥: Unlike many animation mods that modify damage values or kv_rules to increase matched combat frequency, this mod focuses solely on animation edits. No gameplay-related parameters have been altered.

Balance

Although this mod does not modify kv_rules, unit stats, damage values, or any other gameplay parameters, changes in animations can still indirectly influence RNG outcomes and unit behavior, which may have an impact on balance.

However, based on extensive testing, there is little to no balance impact, as the mod was specifically designed to preserve DeI’s balance as closely as possible while improving combat animations. For most players, the differences are unlikely noticeable during normal gameplay and the effects are microscopic to be considered game breaking.

However, if you prefer an experience that is pure to vanilla DeI in every respect balanced-wise, this mod may not be for you.

Known Issue

None at the moment

Compatibility
  • Compatible with future updates to Divide et Impera, unless they update the animation fragments itself.
  • Works seamlessly with DeI submods, including combat submods such as Dynamic Battles, Slower Battles, and Faster Battles.
  • Load this mod above DeI and related submods in your load order.
  • Not compatible with other animation mods for obvious reasons.

Permission

I’ve been working on this project on and off for almost a year now, so I’d appreciate it if you don’t copy and paste my work into your own version to upload on the workshop. If you’d like to use some fragments, please ask for permission first.
