Expect High Quality Custom Animations!

A pure, visual-focused animation submod for Divide et Impera that overhauls combat behavior across all units to make battles more impactful, readable, and visually consistent.

Unlike other animation mods that add a ♥♥♥♥ ton of damage or edit matched_combat to 100%, this mod only edits animations. No stat changes, no hidden damage modifiers, and zero edits to kv_rules. DeI plays exactly the way it was meant to be.

Key Features
  • Custom Animations: Brand new overhand hoplite phalanx, high-thrust pike attacks, reworked axe and club combat animations, and remade animation sets for every unit type.
  • Better Battle Lines: Replaced disruptive pushback animations so formations stay tight and cohesive, instead of soldiers randomly charging ahead.
  • Improved Secondary Attacks: Integrated seamless matched-combat animations for heavier, faster-looking strikes.
  • Smoother Matched Combat: Fixed awkward animation cutoffs and transitions for fluid, uninterrupted duels.
  • Weapon-Based Logic: Units fight in ways that actually match their equipped weaponry.
  • No Hidden Stat ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥: Animation changes only. Nothing else.

Does it Affect Balance?

Technically, animations can slightly influence RNG and unit behavior, but after extensive testing, the impact is microscopic. There are absolutely no gameplay edits; the goal is to stay as close to vanilla DeI balance as possible while heavily elevating the visuals.

Planned Features
  • (IN DEVELOPMENT) A more visually striking and historically inspired Roman combat animation set.
  • (IN DEVELOPMENT) Better standard-bearer animations.
  • Custom animation for lance cavalry
  • Crossbow reload animation
  • More but won’t reveal it just yet

Compatibility
  • Compatible with future DeI updates unless core animation fragments change.
  • Works perfectly with combat submods like Dynamic Battles, Slower Battles, and Faster Battles.
  • Place this mod above DeI and its submods.
  • Not compatible with other animation overhauls.

Various Animation will be implemented to Divide et Impera’s next major update, so any feedback, suggestions, and support will be much appreciated!

Support

I’ve spent nearly a year creating this mod, and I plan to keep improving it with future updates. I believe modding should always remain free, so this mod will never be paywalled or require a donation. Acknowledgements
  • Kam 2150 for serving as my historical consultant. Every major animation update was reviewed by him to ensure it was as historically authentic and high quality as possible.
  • mgis for teaching me the Total War animation pipeline, such as importing animations from Blender to getting them working in-game. This mod wouldn’t exist without his guidance.
  • The Divide et Impera Discord Community for the invaluable feedback, historical discussions, bug reports, and continued support throughout development.

Permissions

This project has taken me nearly a year of on-and-off work. Please don’t reupload this mod or copy-paste the animations into your own files. If you’d like to use any specific fragments, just ask first.
