Description:

This mod adds utility items in the vein of what Enemy Unknown had, which is basically equippable stat buffs for your soldier’s utility slots to add build variety.

I suggest taking something that gives you more than one utility slot early on, something like More Base Utility Slots.

FEATURES:

Several new utility items available in infinite quantities from the start:

OPTICS
  • High-Tech Scope (+10 Aim)
  • High-Tech Laser Sight (+10 Crit Chance)
  • Weakpoint Targeting Matrix (+10 Aim, +10 Crit Chance against flanked targets)
  • Aimbot Protocol (+80 Aim, -8 Mobility)

DODGE/MOBILITY
  • Reaction Speed Training (+33 Dodge, +2 Mobility)
  • Lightweight Exoskeleton (+66 Dodge, +3 Mobility, -2 HP)
  • Caffine Pills (+4 Mobility, -20 Aim)

ARMOR
  • Extra Padding (+1 Armor, -1 Mobility)
  • Heavy Duty Plating (+2 Armor, -2 Mobility)
  • Bulldozer Armor (+2 Armor, +6 HP, -4 Mobility, -10 Defense)

HEALTH
  • Basic Conditioning (+2 HP)
  • Advanced Conditioning (+4 HP, -1 Mobility)

HACK
  • Jailbroken Datapad (+20 Hack)
  • Total System Access (+100 Hack, -50 Defense)

PSI
  • Hardened Psionic Slag (+20 Psi Offence)

DEFENSE
  • Magnetic Deflector Field (+10 Defense, -10 Aim)

STEALTH
  • Reaper Field Training (-3 Detection Radius)

All of the items’ stat values can be tweaked in the XComUtilitarian.ini file located in the mod’s config folder.

Only one item from any category can be equipped at a time, but you can disable this feature by going to the XComGameData file and adding a semi-colon to the start of every ‘+UniqueEquipCategories’ line.

These items do NOT require a new campaign to be accessed, if you load a save after installing this mod the items should be given to you automatically.

Considering this is a series of simple utility items, this shouldn’t conflict with anything. Probably, anyway.

I’m never making these items workshop buildable, but if you really want these items to be workshop buildable instead of free from the start, feel free to take this mod and add on to it and/or make your own version of it that does that.

CHANGELOG:

VERSION 1.2.2 (11/7/2022)

  • NEW ITEM: Caffine Pills. Grants +4 Mobility at the cost of -20 Aim.
  • The items added by this mod can now be accessed in existing campaigns.
  • Item UI mark ups no longer need to be separately edited when making stat changes in the XComUtilitarian file.

STAT CHANGES:

  • Aimbot Protocol: +100 Aim, -10 Mobility >> +80 Aim, -8 Mobility
  • Lightweight Exoskeleton: -4 HP >> -2 HP
  • Basic Conditioning: 3 HP >> 2 HP
  • Advanced Conditioning: 6 HP, -2 Mobility >> 4 HP, -1 Mobility
