Description:
Boom’s Arabia Rework

I love the idea of Arabia, a science and faith oriented civilization that is also able to spam religious buildings in a way that other civs are unable to, with a pretty cool unique unit on top. Unfortunately, the way Firaxis implemented it has always felt wrong to me. If you don’t want last pick of beliefs then you still have to invest in holy sites like everyone else, which are just regular holy sites with no bonuses, and if you are fine with last religion you still have to eventually build the full price holy sites, preferably in every city so you can get the +10% yields from religious building. The madrasa gives slightly more science and comes earlier, which is interesting, but not a huge deal since earlier science would normally help you hit a better unit timing, but madrasas are too late for Mamluk rushes. Thus, the main draw of the building is the faith equal to adjacency, which you have no guarantee of getting anything out of since Arabia has no bonuses to campus adjacency. The +10% yields are also hard to utilize since to reach them you must build a full price district and two buildings that don’t directly give you yields. The civ is just not very coherent.

Changes
  • Removed unique university.

I am somewhat on the fence about this, I could attach it to Saladin rather than Arabia, but I don’t want this rework to be too overtuned with the additional adjacency potential. I may reintroduce it based on feedback.

  • Added a unique Holy Site replacement named the Madrasah.

This unique Holy Site gives and receives an additional standard adjacency with the Campus district, gives a scientist point rather than a prophet point, the buildings in it are built 30% faster, and specialists yield more faith and science.

The idea behind this is that in exchange for a later religion, you are able to compete for early scientists which you normally are not able to do with going Holy Site first, however, you can still run projects if you want an earlier religion. The cheaper buildings allow easier access to the T3 religious building and the 10% bonus, and stronger specialists and adjacency bonuses enhance ability to generate raw yields.

  • Added +1 Faith to each foreign city converted.

Generally early faith is used for monumentality, but if you are planning a Mamluk rush converting nearby cities can net a bit of extra science and set up for Crusade later. Having a bit of extra faith makes this a bit easier.

Compatibility

This is my first mod so I am not sure what constitutes compatibility, but this should be compatible with basically everything including different rule sets and any other mod that doesn’t directly mess with Arabia. If you run into an incompatibility please tell me and I will update this and try to fix the incompatibility.

Special thanks to p0kiehl, Fuzzle07, SailorCat, WindyDelcarlo, and the many other modders who wrote all the guides I read. Go check out their stuff!
Again, this is my first mod, please feel free to leave feedback about compatibility or balance or anything else you would like to say to me :). Please enjoy!
