The MAS 36 was developed as a cheap and easy to produce rifle for the French army to stock while a new semi automatic rifle was developed.It’s purpose then would be to act as an emergency weapon for the reserves,while the better guns were being mobilised to them.It was a very simple rifle with few moving parts and a very reliable action.
It didn’t saw much use during WW2,but it was used in the French army until the 60’s,and in other countries until much later
