—————————————————————————————————
I used to be responsible for the "Infantry pack", being a part of the Dynamic Campaign Generator (DCG) mod team, back in (roughly) 2007-2010, modding Faces of War and Men of War. Back then, I started modding because I like playing with infantry, but found the variety and detail lacking. As I started researching, I found a lot of historical inaccuracy which I tried to amend, to the best of my abilities.
Now, 10+ years later I found this gem of a game, and the infantry part of the game is in a far better shape than anything I’ve seen so far among other games in the genre.
However, I found my old harddrive with WW2 research notes and that old modding itch needs to be scratched.

So, here’s a mod that (for now) mostly focuses on historical accuracy and infantry diversity.

————————————————————————————————–

Done so far:
Red Army overhauled.

39 new squads (and squad variations) for the germans. And a few vehicles.
More coming…

Current focus:
Wehrmacht, mid and late war. Adding Talvisota patch vehicles to the mod.

————————————————————————————————–

Main changes, and the goals of the mod:

A lot of care taken regarding weapon production figures, uniform regulations and availability, logistics, lend lease and the overall course of war. The game already does this better than most other games in the same genre, but I want to put even more emphasis on this, having a somewhat unhealthy fascination with WW2 infantry history.

Larger choice of infantry squads. Mid- and latewar variants of the same troop type (i.e. Guards, Conscripts, Paratroopers , Recon etc) reflecting the factors mentioned above. Great care taken to when specific weapons were available and to whom. Squads will make use of captured equipment as the war progresses.

Less CP cost for infantry, allowing you to field a larger amount. Got this idea from the excellent mod "Conquest enhanced".

More within-squad cosmetic diversity and detail. Less homogenous squads, especially when it comes to appearance, but also regarding their armaments. More use of rank insignia, weapon branch insignia, badges and medals, when appropriate. Proper camouflage for the different branches of the german army.

No motorized / mechanized squads for the Soviet Union.
Motostrelkovaya ("Motor Rifles") meant (in best case) being transported between battles in trucks, not in-battle. On the battlefield, the Red Army troops rode into battle on tanks, with their "tankodesantniki" (i.e. tank riders). You’ll be able to buy transports separately, of course, but you or the A.I. wont use premade squads together with transport vehicles.
Instead: Tankodesantniki "squads" together with tanks available for player and A.I. Each new unlocked tankmodel unlocks a related tankodesantniki squad after you’ve researched tankodesantniki.

Russian names for Soviet troops, german names for Wehrmacht troops. "Prizyvniki" instead of conscripts, "Schütze" instead of rifleman, to give two of examples. I’ll attach some documentation and translations together with the mod to make this more accessible.

Not yet decided on how to deal with specific divisons like "Großdeutchland" or "Division Azul". Focus of the mod is on generic troops types (Infantry, Panzergrenadiers, Guards, Paratroopers etc), and I find it odd when a single squad of a specific named divison enters the battlefield. On the other hand, I love the detail and variation. I might expand on them later and have them as separate factions/mods.

What’s outside of the scope of this mod:
"Realism" and major gameplay changes ( I’m fine cooperating with modders that do, though).
First of all, I think the developers already are doing a great job with this. Secondly, if I stay out of that, this mod will be compatible with other mods that focus on that specifically.

Roadmap:
I’ll work on Red Army first (getting them to a decent level), then Wehrmacht.
After that, Waffen-SS. Waffen-SS might be released as a separate mod/faction.
Main focus is Conquest, but I aim to implement some changes to Skirmish as well later on.
Infantry first, vehicles later. "Wunderwaffe" / prototypes not likely, but I’ll include all historical vehicles that are available through unused game files and generous co-modders.

Longer term:
Adding other factions depending on availability. I won’t steal resources from other modders or games, but adding UK or US troops would be fairly easy since I already have some research done regarding them. Finland, Poland, Hungary, Italy and Romania would be nice too.

——————————–
Modding cooperation:
If you can model and/or texture infantry/vehicle models and equipment and want to join up / help out, please let me know. I have loads of reference material for you to work with.
I’m also open to joining up with existing mods/mod teams as long as the goals and focus of this mod is compatible.

If you have bugs/issues while using the compatibility patch, report bugs in -that- mod page, NOT this one.

This mod probably runs well wih gameplay (overhaul) mods (Realism, campaign difficulty, Airstrikes/artillery off etc), UI mods, cosmetic mods and mods that (only) alter Campaign/Skirmish/Multiplayer.
