Description:

Christian, with Benefits! (v 1.8)

November 9, 2024

LATEST NEWS: Works with the latest version of the game 1.14.0.2

The Short Version: This mod enables Heir Designation, options for multiple wives and concubinage, and spawning an elite Royal Guard that are loyal only to you, and raises the duchy limit before negative vassal opinion to 8 (the game will still warn you after 2 though).

The Long Version:
—————–
1- Allows Heir designation for all crown authority (and tribal authority should you want it) levels.
2- Changes Player’s Religious marriage doctrine to support any one of the preselected choices below:
-Concubines (1 spouse, 3 concubines)
-Less Concubines (1 spouse, 2 concubines)
-Polygamy (4 spouses)
-Harem (4 spouses, 4 concubines, you dirty little hedonist)
-Monogamy
3- Allows an option to spawn a small super elite fighting force that are loyal only to you. This can be done multiple times, and beef up the stat of larger armies when merged.
4- Duchy limit set to 8, for player, before vassals get mad. Ignore the warning if it still shows.

HEIR DESIGNATION
—————–
This is enabled once mod is active. Nothing to enable.
It is limited only to sons (or daughters).

CONCUBINES, and other options
——————————
-Goto Decisions
-Open ‘Christian Benefits’ Menu
-Select desired doctrine (concubine, less concubines, polygamy, harem, monogamy)

The Royal Guard
—————–
-Goto Decisions
-Open ‘Christian with Benefits’ Menu
-Select ‘Spawn Royal Guard’
-The Royal Guard will disband when your current character dies. I find this useful for keeping the unit list ‘clean’ so you don’t start ending up with long lists of small numbered units, especially when an update makes all your current Royal Guard weak and you have to spawn new ones.

Bugs
——-
-You’ll find some I’m sure. Some bugs are due to other mods using the same files.
-One visual bug is from choosing 3 wives and 3 concubines. For certain rulers, with certain doctrines, they will be stacked on eachother cause let’s face it, trying to be King Solomon is a little unrealistic.

WHAT’S NEW in v1.8?
********************
-Just bugs fixes to make it work with the latest release.
(Apparently in version 1.13, they revamped the decision menu, breaking alot of old mods, including this one. It took some time, but I have it functioning again.)
-Updated the included realms file to match the current release, adding the heir designations to the tribal and kingdom tiers.
(The current version was vastly different than the version I had included when I first incorporated the heir designation ability.)
-Found a way to ensure AI can’t use the Royal Guard troops.
(They really should not be able to because they have to be a player to even see the unit)
-Only AI is affected by the 3 duchy rule.
(The easiest wasy to fix this was to remove the limit for players and make the 3 duchy rule only apply to ai).
-Removed previous attempts to be able to change the your culture’s fashions. It just isn’t doable.

——————-
WHAT’S NEW in v1.7?
——————-
-Mostly this update was just making my version current.
-I compared how some of the files I had originally setup had changed with the current version of the game and adapted those changes, or modified my files to be better understood by the game’s added abilities.
-Also, the Duchy limit being set to 8, has been around since 1.44 but I’ve yet to find a way to make the game stop nagging you when you control 3 duchies. Just something to be aware of.
-I removed the Batavi troops. I did see these troops end up in mercenary groups and createable as Man-at-Arms regiments. The current version of the game has a setting that now allows this now to happen. I enabled that.

——————-
1.6
——————-
-Added ability to change cultural clothes. (Not really, never worked)
This was prompted when I was playing through as the Roman culture (out of Rome, Italy.) The game had decided since I was Roman, I should wear Byzantium clothing. I feel that is inaccurate as Latin rulers in the medieval age wore the "Western" clothes the game uses. Looking to fix this, it occured to me that maybe I’m not the only one.

——————-
1.5.1
——————-
-Slight tweak to Royal Guard. Enemy Heavy Infantry also received the boost.

——————-
1.5
——————-
-The Royal Guard troops are fixed for the Royal Court DLC and are now back to full strength.

——————-
1.44
——————-
-Heir Designation limited Crown Authority requirement removed.
-Included the most recent version of the realm_laws file for this updated as mine was from an early version of the game dating back to when I first created the mod.
-Increased Duchy limit before Vassal opinion penalty from 3 to 8.
NOTE: You will still be warned that you have too many when you go over 3 duchies. Just move your mouse over your Vassal’s opinion of you, and you see no duchy penalty until you pass 8 duchies.

——————–
1.41
——————–
-Updated to current version.
-Changed "Batavi" troops to "Royal Guard" since it’s a more generic term.
-1.41 update added entry for now removed batavi troops so any remaining batavi troops on the map don’t
lose their effectiveness.

——————–
1.3a
——————–
-Only updated mod to show as compatible with 1.3 (for those annoyed by message)
-Nothing’s changed, only the "preferred game version number" to remove message so this is still
compatible if you’re still finishing up a pre 1.3 version of CK.

——————–
v1.3
——————–
-Added ability to Spawn Batavi
-Added relevant images to menu tabs
-Sussed out some of the decision options to include tooltips and descriptions and actual names.

——————–
v1.2
——————–
-Moved marriage/concubine doctrines from character interaction to decisions menu. This makes more sense, as marriage doctrine is not likely something most people change regularly. This also cleaned up the character interaction. Only downside is having to confirm decisions. Would like to be able to make this a one-click deal.

——————–
v1.1
——————–
-Works with the same with new and existing games.
-Cleaned up mod by removing religion folder and a few extra files from within mod that were not needed for the mode to work. These were leftover CK2 modding habits that I’ve learned are not necessary in CK3.
-Added more options beyond the standard Concubine doctrine.
-Move the interaction to ‘Religion’ category since marriage doctrine is defined by religions in the game.

Thanks to every who have favorited this mod. I hope you’ll find the update much more useful.
Any suggestions or comments are welcome.
