Description:

Changes every item’s weight to 1. Works for REP and REP+

Note: This will affect some of Tainted Cain’s recipes. When playing as him, disable this mod if you’re looking up or have memorized some of his recipes. This mod does nothing for him anyway since he can’t normally pick up items.

For the 7 years prior to Repentance, every item had an item weight of 1. The Special Item system was used instead of item weights, but the big difference there was there were much less items in the special item pool and you’d at least get to see the first item without any reductions. This was changed in Repentance to make the game feel harder. In my opinion, it makes the game more tedious and boring by drastically reducing the chance of good items spawning. With this mod, all those good items that you worked hard to unlock, have an equal chance of showing up. The caveat is, there’s still a very low statistical chance of any one item appearing, just because of how many items there are.

After hundreds of hours of playtesting, I can safely say you’re still unlikely to see an increase to good items showing up per run. Again, this is due to the sheer amount of items available in any pool. What ends up happening, though, is you’ll see better items more often over a longer period of time. This can help alleviate the player’s perception that they never see good items.

This mod respects all the item pool changes that have taken place. Backported itempool changes from REP+ to REP. The original file is also included if you don’t want the new item pool changes. Just rename the itempools.xml file to something else and rename itempools.xml.original to itempools.xml
