Description:

================================================
Mod is compatible with Repentance or Afterbirth+
but has updates in Repentance
================================================

– Overview –
The Siren was a boss in the wonderful Antibirth mod (which later became Repentance). She charmed many of us with her unique design and gimmick and I couldn’t resist making a mod to let the player take the role of the Siren.

Siren’s playstyle takes the often-overlooked Charm status and turns it into her greatest weapon. While the behavior is slightly different in Repentance than in Afterbirth+, the general idea is that you charm regular enemies and defeat them while charmed to gain luck boosts. And if you charm a boss and use her Siren Song item, a timer appears. Beat the boss before the timer runs out to gain a new friend! In hard mode you have even less time to take out the boss, so time your song well.

Siren has a natural ability to fire charm shots based on her luck stat, so if you can successfully charm enemies and kill them for their luck, you can charm even more and snowball.
This mod also has extra familiars for certain bosses, keep an eye out for Poo Bum (he wants your poo) and Little Little Horn (a cutie with a dangerous side). If you’ve got Repentance there’s even an extra!

Repentance Version Differences
================================================
– Siren’s song has been moved to the pocket item slot. This was a wonderful change Repentance brought that honestly every character can benefit from.
– There is no trinket to worry about anymore, Siren’s natural charm shot chance is as strong as it used to be with the trinket.
– The limitation of "1 familiar per boss" is removed. If you run into the same boss multiple times and wanna grab a familiar from each, go for it!
– Some of the bosses got a different familiar, and of course a whole new group of new bosses are ready to be charmed (remember, major plot bosses resist your allure)
– Co-op is a thing now! Wow! I beat it’s really buggy so be sure to try it out and tell me all about the problems you find!
– Yet another custom familiar was created. I could not resist making a mini Siren to accompany the small Siren in her fight against the regular sized Siren. The new Little Siren will occasionally sing for your enemies, saving you an item charge (and helping you get that boss charmed so you can prep them for conversion)
– Now you can stand side-by-side with the real Siren and see just how much better NotYourSagittarius is at spritework than I am!
– Birthright has a special effect that I haven’t decided if I want to let people discover or give them the info they crave.
– Try singing to an angry Blood Puppy after hitting it with a charm shot ;3

================================================
Afterbirth+ Version Differences
================================================
– Siren naturally fires charm tears, but by holding onto her starting trinket you can boost the chance even higher
– There’s a limit of 1 familiar per boss. If you charm Monstro and get your little Monstro, the next time you see Monstro you can’t grab anything from him (but you may still see one on an item pedastal)

Check the Pinned Cheatsheet below for the list of bosses and what familiar they give.

================================================
Tainted Siren
================================================
As of Repentance there is now an alternate Siren you can play as. This time the Siren is bearing her fangs, and isn’t interested in charming foes anymore.
With a trio of minions at her side, the Siren doesn’t feel the need to attack for herself. These minions are familiars, so any items that alter tear effects won’t change their attacks at all.
"But what do I do with all those items that won’t help me?" I hear you ask. That is answered by Tainted Siren’s pocket active item, the Manifest Melody. If you use it while item pedestals are present in the room, Siren will consume the essence of all those items and charge her song. You can’t take all items if taking one would make another disappear (like in angel rooms), but she will prioritize consuming the highest value item.
Based on the Quality of the item, she’ll gain more power for her Melody. You’ll always get at least some power, but higher tier items will give even more. To use all this power you’ve saved up, use her pocket active while no item pedastals are in the room. Siren will enter a performance state, and any fire directions you press will translate to notes. You can play 3 notes, and the combination and order of notes you chose will correspond to a familiar. If your song is powerful enough, you will spend essence and gain that familiar, permanently!
The patterns don’t change between runs, so this means there are 64 songs to see and learn what familiars they give. Remember, you won’t be able to summon the familiar if your song is weaker than the familiar’s quality. You also cannot summon a familiar you already have.

The strength of her Melody is shown as a different icon in the pocket active slot:
0 : Empty Notes – cannot summon any familiars
1 : Mini Melody – can summon weak familiars
2 : Middling Melody – can summon slightly stronger familiars
3 : Mighty Melody – can summon strong familiars
4+: Manifest Melody – can summon the strongest familiars. Any song will net you a familiar as long as you don’t already have it.

Not being able to attack directly may feel like a big disadvantage, and yes certain burning basement rooms in particular can be nasty to start. But if you learn the right songs you can quickly gain access to powerful minions and carry your run to silly heights.
The discovery is part of the fun with Tainted Siren, but if that’s not your thing you can reference the Cheatsheet below to see what songs give what familiar.
