Description:

it’s that famous plumber again! Hey, doesn’t he look a bit… polyhedral today?

This is a faithful adaptation of Mario as he appeared in Super Mario 64, down to the smallest details. Please enjoy!

Attributes

64 Mario is a middleweight fighter with an emphasis on speed and rushdown. Unlike most Rivals characters, he lacks a projectile – instead, he relies entirely on movement and quick frame data to get in.

Like in the original game, Mario can perform a Double Jump and Triple Jump by jumping three times consecutively. Want to triple jump faster? Try wavedashing twice and then jumping!

Special Moves

Neutral Special – So‑Long Throw

Mario grabs forward, spins the opponent around, and tosses them away. Press left or right to choose the direction you launch them! Forward sends them upward in front of him for a combo starter, while backward will send them far for potential KOs.
Perhaps you’d like to use it on one of the Bowser mods on the Workshop…?

Forward Special – Long Jump / Dive

On the ground, Mario does a Long Jump, a forward leap that boosts horizontal speed. Perform it even while standing, but it’s most effective when you’ve got horizontal momentum, like, for instance, your dash. He can also weakly stomp on enemies.
On the air, Mario will instead Dive, lunging forward to tackle opponents. Hitting a wall makes Mario bonk his head and bounce backward.

And yes… BLJ is possible. Kinda. But the surfaces you need to be able to do it in SM64 are kinda rare to find in Rivals so…

Up Special – Wing Cap

Mario somersaults and takes flight, gliding through the air for a short time. The wings blink before disappearing, after which he falls helplessly. Hitting a wall makes him bonk and bounce backward. You can cancel it with an air dodge or a Ground Pound (down aerial).

Down Special – Metal-Head Mario

Mario turns into Metal Mario, gaining super armor as he winds up and delivers a powerful headbutt.

Normal Moves Highlight
  • Backwards Somersault (Up Strong): a powerful bicycle‑kick attack that propels Mario upwards – and backwards, obviously.
  • Side Somersault (Up Aerial): a backflip kick that flips Mario around and reverses his horizontal momentum – great for mix‑ups!
  • Slide Kick (Dash Attack): leaps forward with a slide. It bounces on the ground and can go off ledges.
  • Shell Sleddin’ (Down Strong): He jumps on a Koopa Shell and spins around him to catch people in front and behind him.

Special thanks to:

  • SleepyPlayer16 – for the portrait art (very pretty!) and the Bob‑omb Battlefield stage in the preview.
  • TKS – for supporting me throughout development.
  • The Mario 64 machinima community – if I never spent my early teen years making Mario 64 bloopers, I probably wouldn’t have been as devoted to making this. (Some skins are even based on machinimists I admired back then!)
  • Nintendo – for making Mario and Super Mario 64, and Charles Martinet for his timeless voice.
