Red (Angry Birds)

The birds are here, and they’re launchin’, and they’re crashin’ their way into Rivals of Aether! Red is from the popular Angry Birds franchise on mobile, now in the fray! He also has his flock with him, which grants him many moves to use.

Red uses his signature flock with ten birds in his moves that he can use. He is a rushdown fighter, who likes to get in his opponents’ faces and smashing them, just like in the many games and media he and the birds appear in.

Neutral Special

Red’s Neutral Special is the signature slingshot. Red hops up onto the slingshot, pulls himself back, and launches forward, even with the classic dots behind him. This move is a central part of Red’s moveset, as it allows him to create combos fairly easily. After someone is hit using the Slingshot, Red will bounce up again, losing his momentum. Although Red lost his momentum, it is perfect for stringing into aerials or specials, like nair, fair, or forward special.

Side Special

His Side Special is Chuck. Chuck flies horizontally and hits opponents very quickly. This move can be used to get yourself out of bad situations, and recover back to the stage. Though there are a few drawbacks. For one, be sure not to use this move off the stage in the opposite direction of the stage, as Chuck will send himself flying to the blast zone. Additionally, stay alert when using this move towards opponents, as just like in the original mobile game, Chuck can easily be hit out of his speed boost. However, this move also stops Chuck’s momentum when he hits something, like the original game, as well. This move is not only good as a recovery, but can be used with the Slingshot as a combo.

Down Special

Red’s Down Special is Bomb, the bird that’s black and likes to explode. Bomb requires a little bit to charge his explode, then releases a large explosion, that when hit, will damage opponents fiercely. This move can be used to block the opponent off stage and also catch them off guard. The blast can be done quickly with less firepower or slower with a bigger bang.

Up Special

From black to white, Matilda is used and she droppin’ one last egg right on top, literally! Matilda fires an egg, and flies horizontally upwards. The egg will hit anyone below it and will add extra pressure to your opponents as you recover. This move can be additionally used as a strong combo finisher for opponents that are farther above you. Though I really don’t get why she drops the egg, if you want them back why let them go?

This alt turns Red into his appearance from Angry Birds Space, and brings his flock into special outfits too. Birds that were not in the original game were given space like costumes in their own right, including Ice Bird as the back air.
