The Old Realms (TOR) is a total overhaul mod aimed at bringing Warhammer Fantasy battle, from the tabletop to Mount & Blade: Bannerlord. We are currently in the early stages of our work, an ‘early access’ if you will, in which we are slowly populating the world with our overhauled factions.

Within the current Steam Release version of TOR, we have the Vampire Counts and several Empire states that are playable, including Vampire visuals for players. Further major features include combat magic, such as summoning the undead or casting fireballs, as well as the ability to place battle cannons are two major features present for
both the player and Ai. All on our custom-made campaign map!

Mod Compatibility

The Old Realms does not officially support any mods other than Bannerlord Harmony (which is required). If you are encountering bugs or issues, please ensure before reporting or asking for tech support that the symptoms you are seeing are reproducible with a fresh new game running only the supported TOR modules with no other mods enabled.
Using at your own risk, the mod may be compatible with other mods that do not change factions, troops and the world map (e.g. RBM, Serve as Soldier, camera mods etc.)

Important

If you have a previous version of our mod installed, you must:

  • Completely remove all old module folders
  • Delete your shader cache from C:ProgramDataMount and Blade II BannerlordShaders (delete both TerrainShaders and CoreShaders folders)

Note: Please be aware that ProgramData is a folder hidden by Windows by default. You must adjust your Windows view settings to be able to see it

Known Issues
Long Loading Times

The very first time you load the game after downloading and enabling our mod will be slow. The game will appear to be stuck on the loading screen – this is normal. The game is compiling shaders in the background. Depending on your PC’s specifications, this may take anywhere from 10 minutes to over an hour. Once you are in the main menu, it is highly recommended that you pick the option to "Build Shader Cache". This will also result in a long loading screen, but once you are done, your gameplay experience is going to be smooth. This step is not mandatory, but if you choose to not do it, your campaign will have many 5 minute loading screens when loading into battles until you have encountered all types of armies/parties with all of our custom assets present.

This shader compiling process currently is repeated, every time Tale Worlds is publishing an update for the base game.

FIX: We found a fix to drastically reduce the loading times – by deleting all game shaders. This will reduce overall the recompiling of the shaders a lot, to just a few minutes. WARNING: ANY other shader of the vanilla game or other mods get lost in this process and have a small recompile time.
To do please follow the following instruction:

-Step 1-
Navigate to your program data folder either by…

  • … Type %programdata% in your search bar(or press win key + r )->Mount and Blade II Bannerlord
    OR
  • … Enable hidden folders and go to C:ProgramDataMount and Blade II Bannerlord
In the folder, target folder delete the “Shaders” folder.

-Step 2-
Navigate to your Bannerlord installation folder and go into the Shaders->D3D11 folder by….

  • … navigating in the explorer to C:SteamsteamappscommonMount & Blade II Bannerlord
    OR
  • …. right click Bannerlord in Steam->browse files-> ShadersD3D11 )
Inside that folder, you should see a file called compressed_shaders_cache.sack, delete that as well.

What took us in a test case 3 hours in total (loading into the main menu and shader cache) now only took us about 10 mins.
You may expierence at first some slight stuttering in the game since some shaders are loading on the fly. The problem will however vanish once all shaders have been loaded.

Strange looking Thumbnails

Item thumbnails in the inventory, troops and characters in the encyclopedia may look like their textures have artifacts ("stripes"). This is a native rendering bug for the Bannerlord game and is not in our power to fix it. Please petition the game developer TaleWorlds to fix it sooner rather than later. This is a universal problem and affects all mods that have custom assets.
