Less Default Hair [for 1.0 & 1.1]
Isn’t it frustrating to have the opportunity to get pawns with good traits and skills, but who happen to have hair so horrendous that we can’t stand to look at them? With so many excellent hair mods, there seems to be little reason to continue using all the subpar vanilla hair. But, while most vanilla hairstyles are ugly or at least inferior to similar styles in hair mods, some of us would rather not remove all of them.
Vanilla 1.0 and 1.1 hairstyles I have removed:
- Afro
- Braided knot
- Brief ponytail
- Burgundy ….(seems too plain to me)
- Curly
- Firestarter
- Greasy swoop
- Long
- Pigtails ……..(because Spoons Hair Mod’s Lulu looks better)
- Princess
- Scatman
- Scorpion tail
- Troubaduor
- Tuft
- Wavy
Vanilla 1.1 hairstyles I have removed (new):
- Bowlcut
- Bravo
- Elder
- Lackland
- Locks
- Primal
- Recruit
- Revolt
- Rockstar
- Rookie
- Scrapper
- Shave top braid
Vanilla 1.0 and 1.1 hairstyles I wanted to keep:
Vanilla 1.1 hairstyles I wanted to keep (new):
– Note 0: (M) = men-only; (F) = women-only; (M usually) = rarely on women; (F usually) = rarely on men; (Any) = equally likely on men and women.
– Note 1: While I did keep Mop, I improved the texture to make it look better and reversed it so that it’s easily distinguishable from Rimhair’s "Neat" style.
– Note 2: The removed hairstyles can still be chosen for starting characters via EdB Prepare Carefully.
– Note 3: The installation of hair mods for more variety is recommended.
Version 1.5 (for RimWorld 1.1 and 1.0)
- Added loadfolders.xml and restructured in order to support both 1.0 and 1.1.
- Removed 12 vanilla hairstyles from RimWorld 1.1.
- Allowed 14 of the best hairstyles from RimWorld 1.1 to remain, with minor tweaks to Frozen, Randy and Sticky.
- Added 14 of the best hairstyles of RimWorld 1.1 to the 1.0 version, so RimWorld 1.0 users can enjoy them.
Version 1.41 (for RimWorld 1.0)
- The Messy style has been added back. I’ve decided that it is decent and different enough from modded hair.
- Mohawk is now both Punk and Tribal. (It used to be strictly Punk.)
- Spikes is now both Punk and Tribal. (It used to be strictly Punk.)
- Xeva’s Rimhair (Also: Forum topic & download[ludeon.com])
- Spoons Hair Mod (Also: Forum topic & dropbox download[ludeon.com])
- Nackblad Inc Rimhair (Also: Forum topic & dropbox download[ludeon.com])
- Rimsenal – Rimhair (Also: Forum topic & dropbox download[ludeon.com])
I’d also recommend one of these two mods (but not both):
- Invisible Hats (Updated to work for both 1.1 and 1.0.)
- [KV] Show Hair With Hats or Hide All Hats (Currently, only has support for 1.0.)
This has been tested and shown to work on RimWorld 1.0.2551, compiled February 21, 2020. However, if you use the DRM-free version of RimWorld 1.0, then it is likely that you are using RimWorld 1.0.2408, compiled October 1, 2019. If so, you will get serious red errors with this mod – or virtually any mod updated for RimWorld 1.1 – and it will refuse to work.
On the other hand, if you are using the Steam version of RimWorld 1.0, then you should be fine because the Steam version was updated to the latest 2551 1.0 revision.
If you are using RimWorld 1.0.2408, then you will need to do one of these things to resolve the red errors:
- Edit ‘About.xml’ in the About folder, deleting the <packageId> tags and everything between them.
- Uninstall this or any other mod updated for RimWorld 1.1.
- Update your RimWorld to 1.0.2551.
On choice #2: You could switch to using Less Default Hair [Legacy version for 0.9 and 1.0], instead. This is the old version.
On choice #3: If you want or need to have both RimWorld 1.0 and RimWorld 1.1 installed simultaneously, such as needing to update mods, you could follow this Discord discussion[discordapp.com]. It explains how to do this using Steam.
Special thanks to:
- Mittsies for the inspiration that the No Awful Hairstyles mod provided me. (All my files are my own or modified from the core game.)
- skullywag and kchou94 for extracting and releasing the RimWorld core art source[ludeon.com]. That made it simple for me to modify (and update) the texture for the Mop hair style.
