Description:

(Fictional, not to be confused with the HMS Birkenhead of 1845)

When England saw how successful the Collins line was with their luxurious interiors, they wanted to stay on top of the shipping game and so a company began making their own liners with luxurious interiors. This one is the RMS Birkenhead, a rather fast paddle steamer with, as the public puts it, "suspiciously similar interior to that of the Collins Liners". It had a top speed of 14 knots and was well liked by the public. However, not long into its career, it had met a premature end. Early one morning, in heavy fog and rain, the Birkenhead was heading south through the Irish Sea when, as it bobbed up and down in the waves, punched a few holes into its keel from an uncharted rock and began sinking. An attempt was made to turn east and beach itself, but they had turned too far and headed north-east right past Anglesey Island at the northern tip of Wales. The flooding engine room was having such a bad affect on the engines, as the cold water was cooling down the pistons and causing the steam to condense. Water built up so much in the cylinder that it eventually broke the crankshaft as the piston tried to compress all the water inside. With the ship now dead in the water, it slowly sank bow first as the sun rose on a new day.

HOW TO SPAWN

1: Load up the world that you want to spawn it in
2: go to the pause menu
3: Click "addon editor"
4: Click "load"
5: Click "Workshop"
6: Click "RMS Birkenhead (Sinkable)"
7: Click "test location" on one of the four spawning locations

STARTING, OPERATION, AND SHUTTING OFF

TO START:
1: Locate the condenser room on the bottom most deck of the ship, and turn on the "Condenser Pumps" switches
2: Go to the boiler room
3: Turn the dampers all the way up
4: Light boiler
5: Turn the water injector all the way up
6: When boiler temperature reaches about 100, turn the damper down to about 0.55
7: When steam starts generating, turn the water injector down to about 0.10

OPERATION:
The two paddlewheels are independent from one another so they can be separately controlled.
The port/starboard engine valves controls the speed of the engines in question, from full ahead to full astern.
The main steam valve controls how much both the engines are getting steam, and is recommended to use for stopping the ship.
The port/starboard and main valves can be controlled from the engine room and the bridge, the auxiliary helm can control only the port/starboard valves.
Can be run with low physics setting.

WARNING: MAKE SURE YOU HAVE INFINITE FUEL OFF.

SINK SWITCHES

The sink switches are located in the Great Room at the very back of the ship, in the Officers quarters, as a keypad on the right side of the table.
1: Two small holes are made in the forward two compartments of the ship (forward cargo hold and engine room)
2: the starboard boiler explodes, blowing a hole in the keel as well the bulkhead separating the boiler room and the condenser room. This is, however a preventable sink
3: The ship v-breaks in rough seas
4: same as 1, but triggered by somewhat mild waves

EXTRA NOTES

-Paddle steamers typically don’t like rough waves, so it rolls easily when broadside.
-Speed is directly linked to boiler pressure. The higher the pressure, the faster you’ll go.
-The Third sink switch is triggered by the ship hitting large waves in a rather specific way, so it can take a while to trigger, or not trigger at all.
-the two lifeboats on deck can be put onto the lifeboat davits. Just hook them up from where they are, and winch them in.
-The boiler explosion uses parts from the weapons DLC, but is not required for it to work
-This builds upload was 2 months overdue

Very loosely inspired by the RMS Britannia, with bits of inspiration taken from other ships such as the SS Adriatic (1856) and the SS Central America
