The new tanks use the 3D models of their older variants, but I think they still look close enough to what they should look like since the differences are mostly small; such as the T90M having the Shtora-1 ‘red eyes’ when realistically they have been removed on the ‘M’ version. However I will add more textures to make them visually unique.
Some of the tripod-mounted ATGM launchers have ‘magazines’. Realistically ATGM mags don’t exist (probably?) but I wanted a way to explain how a single launcher tube has between 2 – 8 missiles. In the gameplay this is balanced out by them having a longer reload once the mag has been depleted (presumably having to reload the mag-well like a bolt-action rifle).
— —AI Improvements— —
The AI can now use ATGMs. Previously (at least in map editor battles, not sure about multiplayer) the AI would always shoot at the ground next to the target unless specifically ordered by the player to fire at the target. Now they will automatically aim for centre mass or the closest part which is visible to them. The downside to this is that the missiles are no longer guided after shooting.
The AI now fires at its maximum effective range. Previously if a tank was ordered to be stationary and an enemy unit entered into its firing range the tank would hold fire until it had moved 20 points (metres?) inside its range. Eg a tank with 170 range wouldn’t fire until the enemy is 150 away.
Note that this isn’t a ‘longer range’ mod, it’s just letting the AI make better use of the range that it already has. Also the AI still needs to detect and engage the target before making use of this; it’s not a radar!
Jeeps and other vehicles have been given 360 degree firing arcs so that the AI can always fight with them. Previously they were basically useless as long as you stayed out of their narrow cone of fire.
This mod is mainly designed for map editor battles but it can still run in multiplayer/skirmish.
Some tanks have had their alternative ammunition removed; this is partially to fix the tank to a standard ‘battle rating’ and also to balance it against the AI which doesn’t know how to change ammo types unless it’s AP-to-HE. That and ammo is unlimited in map editor battles so some ammo types are just OP unless you manually turn the unlimited ammo off for every single unit.
ATGMs have all been kept as an alternative as they’re not OP; having the disadvantage of being slower than normal tank rounds.
If you want the AI to use ATGMs in a tank then remove all the standard tank rounds except HE. This will force the AI to choose ATGMs when engaging enemy tanks.
