Description:
Georgia Overhaul Mod

This mod aims to overhaul and add content for Georgia. I created it for personal use and then decided to publish it in the workshop, because why not. Georgia is essentially a butt-monkey of the EU IV, with the absence of any kind of relevant and unique content. It’s one of the rarer Eastern European Orthodox countries that STILL doesn’t have its unique mission trees or any flavor at all. So, I’ve decided to change it.
What does this mod have for Georgia:

A New Mission Tree:

Georgia now will have its unique mission tree. Missions vary by theme and difficulty, but they can be roughly divided into three parts: Military, Diplomatic, and Internal. However, the branches are highly intertwined with each other. Thus there are no separate "trees", but rather one massive tree. I’ve tried to make missions as rewarding as possible, without them being too overpowered, but admittedly, I may not have succeeded at the latter.

Serbian and LotN Polish Mission trees have been particularly inspiring for me and have influenced the making of the Georgian one.

Unique Governments:

Georgia now has its own unique set of Government Reforms, corresponding Monarchy, Republic, and Theocracy. Historically, Georgian principalities and kingdoms could punch above their ability, due to which they have managed to retain relative independence, despite overwhelmingly negative odds. The reason for this was the constant state of war, both internal and external, made society highly militarized. For example, Archangelo Lamberti in his "Colchide Sacra" writes about one of the Georgian states, the principality of Mingrelia, where everyone slept with their weapon near the bed and was always ready for the military campaign, allowing a small principality to muster an unusually large army for its size. Naturally, all of this was also translated into a desolate economy and constant instability.

With all this considered, while the Georgian Government forms have different boons, there are certain common features:

  • All Government Forms use Militarization Mechanic-as mentioned above, the Georgian states were essentially in a constant state of war, which was heavily reflected in the society. With 1.35 giving more flexibility with government mechanics, Georgian States feature unique Early Model and New Model Georgian Militarization Mechanics (Updated after the appropriate Mission).
  • All Government Forms have a Tax income penalty-Frequent wars, unrest, and constant mobilization were devastating factors for the Georgian Economy. Thus all government forms have penalties for tax income.
  • All Government Forms have a reduced Governing Capacity-This one has two aims. The first and most obvious is the same reason, why the same penalty is applied to Prussia in vanilla, to not make militarization overpowered. The second one is for Roleplay reasons: Historically, the main way of expansion for Georgia was the establishment of protectorates and building up a "Vassal Swarm" around the kingdom proper. The Governing Capacity penalty should encourage players to use the same strategy and policy. Some of the Missions have events that allow for the creation of very loyal (‘historical Friend’) marches. Also, every Georgian government has an additional mid-game reform about curbing historically rebellious and discontent nobles, which allows to at least partially mitigate this penalty.

Three New Monuments:

This Mod adds three Orthodox monuments, associated with Georgians:

  • Svetitskhoveli-Patriarchal Cathedral of the Georgian Church, this monument signified the ambitions of the Georgians and inspired them to defend their Faith. (Thus Granting Prestige and Manpower in TFP);
  • Iviron Monastery-The Georgian Monastery in Mount Athos served as one of the major centers of Georgian culture. The Monks that lived and worked there have contributed significantly to the cultural, scientific, and political advancements in their Homeland (Thus Granting Idea cost discount and the Institution Spread).
  • Petritson (Bachkovo) Monastery-Originally founded by Georgians, this monastery became home for monks of various backgrounds and Origins. Despite the weakening of the Georgian state, it continued to prosper under the Bulgarians. The Monastery was favored by the Bulgarian Tsars and to this day remains the major religious center of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church (Thus, this monument grants additionally accepted cultures and splendor).

Changes of the National Ideas:
  • Increased infantry combat ability from +10% to +15% in Georgian Traditions.
  • Replaced Essentially useless "Bagrationi Dynasty" idea with one called "Incessant Warfare", granting reduced Army Tradition decay by -1% and Monthly Militarization;
  • "Restoration of Fortresses and Churches" Now also grants -25% fort maintenance cost;
  • "Dasturlamali" now also grants -10% Development Cost;

New subject type: Georgian Protectorate:

Georgian Protectorate behaves like a march, but has less liberty desire and can only be created by the Georgia, Imereti, Samtskhe, or any other country with Georgian culture. A Georgian protectorate doesn’t take any additional diplomatic slots, Unlike regular march, pays a small amount of money to its overlord and overall enjoys a high degree of diplomatic autonomy: it can form alliances and political marriages with co-subjects, as well as form rivalries wage wars against his and overlord’s rivals independently (assuming that the country in mind isn’t a subject of or allied to the protectorate’s overlord). Also, the revocation of the protectorate status will have a massive impact on stability and prestige. Protectorate will then be demoted to a standard march.

Other Changes:
  • Some Flavor events. Most of them are tied to the Mission Tree.
  • Samtskhe now starts as a vassal of Georgia, as it didn’t revolt until several decades later; Imereti technically shouldn’t be independent either, but the event will fire after a few days, one of the options of which will allow to annex it in exchange for a large revolt and stability loss, giving a player a choice on how to unite the country.
  • Georgian and Armenian cultures now moved to the Byzantine Culture Group, as it was in the earlier patches. While it makes expansion in the Caucasus a bit more inconvenient, it felt like making more sense than the current allocation.
  • Different units for Georgia, combining sprites of Theodoro, Circassia, and Kiev. After switching the culture groups, Georgian (and Armenian) units used Byzantine sprites instead of Caucasian ones. I could, in theory, use purely Caucasian units, but I felt that this combination would be far more interesting.
  • New Georgian Localization for different provinces to make them more Georgian-like, and for some of the Government titles.

Which DLCs are used?:

Frankly speaking, I cant remember exactly which DLC does what here, but the major ones that I can think of that are relevant for this mod are "Third Rome", "Cossacks", "Dharma", "Art of War", "Rights of Man" and "Emperor". "Black sea Unit pack" is also used for the modified unit looks;
