Alfa Romeo 156
This item includes one mid-size sedan from Alfa Romeo. The 156 was introduced as a replacement for the Alfa Romeo 155 at the 1997 Frankfurt Motor Show. It was assembled at the Fiat Group plant in Pomigliano d’Arco, in southern Italy. Between 1997 and 2005, 680 thousands of cars were produced, which was a huge success for the brand. The 156 was awarded as one of the best cars of its time. The mod contains the 1st generation model before facelift (series 932) with the 1.6l MT T.Spark engine, which was produced from October 1997 to March 2002.
The 156 was designed at the Alfa Romeo Style Center under the supervision of chief designer Walter de Silva. Highly curved fenders, retro-style front door handles, hidden rear door handles, extra-deep grilles, and the model’s wide profile are distinctive styling features. All this made this car one of the most beautiful in its class. The 156 was one of the first sedans with hidden rear door handles. The design of the model was influenced by the Alfa Romeo 1900, Giulietta and Giulia models. The body of the 932 series achieved an aerodynamic drag of 0.31.
The basic equipment of the car included a proprietary Alfa Code protection system, a steering wheel with height and axle adjustment, a driver’s seat with height adjustment, velor floor mats, dashboard lighting with three-level adjustment, ABS and EBD, an airbag for the driver and passenger, an additional stop -signal, headlight adjustment, height-adjustable headrests and many other functions. The car could be retrofitted with air conditioning, single-zone climate control, side airbags. In addition, the 156 was available with additional option packages (like the sportpack), including those that differed for different countries, for example, with cold climates.
In 2001, the engines began to comply with Euro-3 standards and were derated, and the 2.5l engine received an increase in power up to 141 kW. The keys to the car became folding and, in addition to controlling the central lock, they received a button for remotely unlocking the trunk, and the trunk lid itself lost the lock hidden under the emblem. The model went through two restyling: in 2002 and in 2003.
Many Russian experts say that the build quality has improved significantly compared to previous models. Corrosion problems of the body are also a thing of the past, problems with the electronics have been corrected by the installation of new reliable wiring. One of the features is the dynamism and behavior on the track. The Selespeed robotic box responds quickly in manual mode, and in automatic mode it shifts gears with speed and clarity, without jerks and jerks. In terms of reliability, Alfa Romeo 156 is not inferior to models 147 and solid 166. Of the minuses, the car is not very popular in the post-Soviet space, since there are no cheap Chinese spare parts for the model, the main components are assembled by Italian or German manufacturers.
In 1998, an international jury of 56 journalists from 21 countries awarded the Alfa Romeo 156 the European Car of the Year. The 156 was quite successful in motorsport like its predecessor the 155. Finally, the model was popular for use in television series, various films and video games. This success was facilitated by the unusual design of Alfa Romeo, success in motorsport and official use in the ranks of the Italian police.
