Dimensional Havoc
Swirling masses of rubble float above the buildings in the Hamlet, slowly circling what seems to be a chasm in the fabric of reality itself. From the depths of the chasm’s darkness emerge dozens of familiar monsters, all surrounded by a mysterious red glow. It won’t take long until all that’s left of us is a pile of ashes on the ground…
Dimensional Havoc adds a new Brigand Incursion-like event to the Darkest Dungeon. A Portal opens up inside of the Hamlet, which allows monsters from an alternate reality to invade. Fight off waves of old monsters with new twists to prevent them from destroying what you’ve built.
To kill the portal, you will need to defeat a set amount of monsters. The Portal will summon 5/6/7 waves of monsters on Apprentice/Veteran/Champion respectively. Each wave has multiple variations to it, so that each fight against the Portal will be unique. Once only a single monster is left of any given wave, the Portal will start acting on it’s own until it can summon the next wave.
The waves feature unique variants of monsters from each of the vanilla regions. Each "regional" wave has 6 variants, except the "Hamlet" wave, which has 10 variants. Veteran and Champion waves both have 4 variants.
Each wave brings something new to the table, such as cannibalistic spiders, a pack of Gnashers lead by an alpha Gnasher, a Giant who has befriended a dog and Stingers that charge up to deliver a massive shock.
Three new quests are added, one for each difficulty. The goal of each of the quests is to defeat the portal. Each quest is triggered by a town event with the following requirements:
- Apprentice quest requires week 10, 4 lvl 1 heroes and at least the first building upgrade for armor, weapon and skill training.
- Veteran quest requires week 20, 4 lvl 3 heroes and at least the first 3 building upgrades for armor, weapon and skill training.
- Champion quest requires week 30, 4 lvl 5 heroes and all building upgrades for armor, weapon and skill training.
The Champion quest will become repeatable after it is first defeated.
Each quest will reward the player with a new trinket as well as a unique Empyreal quirk. In addition to the quest rewards, there are also 8 quirks which are awarded for defeating specific Veteran/Champion wave variants.
Empyreal Quirks are not only one-per-roster quirks with slightly stronger buffs than normal, but they also occasionally surround the hero with left-over energy from the Portal to activate a special effect and increase their original buffs for a few rounds.
If you choose to not do the quest when the event shows up, you will lose 2 building upgrades in a similar vein to the Brigand Incursion event, as the monsters run rampant inside your Hamlet.
If you are planning on playing on Stygian/Bloodmoon, please subscribe to this patch and place it above this mod in the load order.
Place KCC below this mod.
The mod should not have any mod conflicts with other mods. However, keep in mind that the mod is somewhat large, which might lead to issues on heavily modded save files.
If the champ quest (or any quest but champ mostly) is too much to load and you ctd while loading, replace this mod with this to safely load into the quest and continue the save file.
A huge thank you to all play testers that volunteered to help me develop this mod.
