Mario
Let’s a go! Mario jumps his way into Rivals of Aether!
—–
Mario plays similar to how he does in the Super Smash Bros. series, with him being an all-rounded character with no glaring flaws in his moveset. Here in Rivals, his moveset has been tweaked to take a little more inspiration from his home series as well to fit in more with Rivals.

Mario uses one of his trademark powerups, the Fire Flower, as his Neutral Special. Mario will produce a fireball as a projectile that bounces forward. It travels at a moderate pace and has low knockback on hit, so it has purpose as a combo starter, extender, or as a kill confirm tool! Be weary that it does have a small cooldown after use.
You can also hold Special during startup to charge the fireball! Once fully charged, Mario will have a Firebrand charge. This charge can be used on either NSpecial, DSpecial, or FStrong.
With a Firebrand charge on NSpecial, Mario will throw a bigger and stronger fireball!
Replacing the Super Cape as his Forward Special is the Dive from the 3D Mario games! Mario will leap forward with both arms in the air. This gives Mario a fast movement option on the battlefield. If you land on the ground during this move, input Special to do a roll forward to get more distance!
While descending, this move can be canceled with either an airdodge or a jump. Jump out of this at the right time to go flying after your opponents!
Mario takes his defining trait (his jumping ability) and makes it his Up Special! Mario will jump upwards with great force and deliver a mighty uppercut. So mighty, it even makes the enemy drop Coins! This also doubles as a vertical finisher, so use this after a long string of aerials to secure a K.O.!
Mario takes a page out of his Melee moveset and uses the Mario Tornado as his Down Special! Mario will spin rapidly with this move for a brief time before stopping. Repeatedly press Special during this move to rise upwards!
With a Firebrand charge on Down Special, Mario will spawn multiple fireballs all around him while using the move.

Other Noteworthy Moves:
Mario’s Dash Attack takes from his Slide technique from Super Mario 64! This move travels somewhat far and lasts for a long while. It can also slide off of ledges!
Rather than performing a twirl for his Down Air, Mario will perform a Stomp instead! It’s a quick move with great frame data, but deals somewhat below-average knockback. I wonder what would happen if you stomped someone 10 times in the air without touching the ground…
From Mario’s various RPG adventures comes his mighty Hammer! This move is the slowest of Mario’s strongs, but it has high knockback and some disjoint! This move will leave a mark on your opponent, especially if you hit them with the head of it!
With a Firebrand charge on Forward Strong, Mario will perform his Firebrand technique from Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga! This move packs quite a punch, so make it count!
A rising uppercut. This will go higher the longer you charge it. Try performing a DACUS (Dash Attack Cancel Up Smash) at ledge to perform a Sliding Plumber Punch!
