Description:

Fight as a Mario Kart, which also features a Shy Guy (he’s more comfortable away from the spotlight). Or just use the kart if you feel like it. This fighter can make great use of its speed and a whole arsenal of items to indulge the opponent in the chaos of Mario Kart! It can drift, glide, jump on ramps and do other cool stuff to blaze through stages!

This character comes with two stages, Mario Kart Circuit and RC: SNES Rainbow Road!

Mechanics
  • Speed boosts:

Many of Mario Kart’s moves can give it a short speed boost. The one you’ll be using the most is by using its Neutral Aerial move: the Trick! Keep the attack button pressed after using it to activate the boost when landing on the ground!

One other way you can give it a boost is by keeping the attack button pressed after hitting someone with the Dash Attack, which uses the anti-gravity mode! You can even choose the direction, for both offensive and defensive playstyles. It’s like the Drop Dash from Sonic!

But did you know you can also give yourself a boost right at the start of the match? Hold attack after the "2" of the countdown is on-screen. If you do this too early, you’ll get damaged. Do it too late, and nothing happens. Just like the games!

  • Smooth landing:

When you jump while dashing, if you’re fast enough when you land, there’s no landing lag when you hit the ground. Basically, you can keep hopping while running as much as you like! However, if you do anything while in the air (such as attacking or double jumping), this isn’t the case. Just beware: you’re unable to attack for some frames if you use this technique.

Neutral Special

This move has some variations, so hang on to your seat.

If you use the move on the ground while moving, you drift! The more you drift, the bigger your charge, which is indicated by the sparks created by the tires. When the kart is completely turned to the opposite way it’s moving (you control that, by the way), pressing the button again makes the kart boost, with power and speed depending on the charge!

If you use the move on the ground while static, you charge energy by using a Golden Mushroom! Keep pressing the special button for a bigger charge, and boost by waiting or by pressing the attack button! More charge means more power and etc.

Lastly, using the move in the air makes the kart launch a weak fire ball. That’s it.

Forward Special

On the ground, this move makes the kart use a Super Mushroom to gain some speed! After some frames, you can cancel it into both Neutral and Up Special.

In the air, however, the kart uses a Bullet Bill, charging at opponents with mighty force before going into pratfall.

Up Special

On the ground, this move creates a ramp that makes the kart leap! You can even cancel it into a Neutral Aerial for style points! You can’t double jump or dodge immediately after using it, though.

In the air, the kart activates its glider, which allows for graceful recoveries. If you use the move while ascending, there’s even a cool spin that can KO airborn opponents! Did you know that people can stand on the glider? And that you can throw fire balls while using it?

Down Special

There’s no such thing as Mario Kart without bananas! They’re versatile little things that can both protect yourself and mess with opponents.

If you use the move, the banana will initially be behind you. Use it again, and you will drop it on the ground. The banana can protect you from projectiles and other moves, but it can only take one single hit. It’s possible that you might hit your own banana with some moves, so always take this into consideration.

The banana, as expected, trips up opponents when they touch it. But unlike in Smash, the opponents slide! If they touch the banana when they’re not moving, however, the opponent still gets stunned, but doesn’t slide.

Just be aware that (surprise!) just like in Mario Kart, you are NOT immune to your own banana. Which also means: don’t drop the banana while driving backwards. What do you think will happen?

One last thing! There’s a 3 second cooldown before spawning a banana again, starting from when the previous banana disappeared.

Forward Strong

It’s a Green Shell! Its power is reduced in the air, and its speed gets higher if parried!

However, if you use the move while losing a stock match, you summon the mighty Spiny Shell! Only once per match, though.

Up Strong

Look out for the Bob-omb! This move has three levels of charge, which also changes its trajectory. After the bomb bounces once, the explosion will always send opponents away its original direction.

Down Strong

Honk! It’s the super horn! Covers a wide area.

Other features

Here are some other features of this character:

  • You can also play as the kart… without the Shy Guy!
  • You can taunt while running!
  • The wall jump uses the anti-gravity mode!
  • You can cancel the Down Aerial (POW Block) into the Up Special!
  • You can use the Down Tilt (Tanuki tail) while dashing and preserve some of the speed!
  • The Forward Aerial (Chain Chomp) has less landing lag if you hit an opponent!
  • You can slightly move to the left or right while using the Up Tilt!

There are many other cool things about the character, but you’re better off seeing them yourself or watching the presentation!
