Emeri (ModJam 2023)

A girl with mana storage abilities who appears in the basement for… reasons unknown. Her affinity for magicks has caused room clear rewards to be replaced with consumable items, which she gains power from by using her signature ability, Warp Gate. Use consumable items to improve the rewards that Warp Gate gives. It is the key to your successes.

After getting locked in the closet in Home, Emeri’s mana reserves have crystallized and shot out her head. With this additional weight, her speed is heavily encumbered, but she can bring out the magical ability of crystals that other characters couldn’t otherwise. Maybe you can use this to your advantage to break Emeri’s seal?

This mod comes with 7 new items, 2 new trinkets, and a new pickup! Come across these magically inspired items in your runs, and embrace the power… or sheer insanity, that comes with them.

Warp Gate: Spawns a bomb or key pickup. Using consumables (cards, pills, or runes) improves the reward that it’ll give, allowing it to spawn items. The item it will drop is always projected in the corner and changes upon entering new rooms.
Etching Stone: A rune version of Deck of Cards or Mom’s Bottle of Pills. Simple as that. Has a higher chance to spawn soul stones when playing as Tainted Emeri.
Necrotic Grip: Deals 10 damage to an enemy and freezes them if they survive. Killing a frozen enemy increases the damage this item deals by 3.
Chaos Bolt: Shoots 3 bolts that can inflict 1 of 8 possible debuffs on the enemy.
Deck of Many Things: Activates 1 out of 22 possible wildly positive or negative effects.
Thunder Step: Double tap the firing keys to teleport and zap enemies!
Dragon Scale: Shoot hot orange tears which release lots of fire around them!
Runic Penny: Blessed Penny, but for Rune Shards, basically.
Ring of Regeneration: Heals 0.5 to 3 red hearts for every 10 rooms cleared.
Arcane Chest: Has a rare chance to spawn replacing Locked Chests. Can be opened using a tarot card.

As of Version 1.1, you can now try the challenge Decked Out. Not used to Deck Of Many Things? Try this challenge, then maybe you will be. Or you’ll hate it. Makes things fun either way 🙂

As of Version 1.1, there are some rooms added that have guaranteed Arcane Chest spawns in them. One of them even has a super secret, which could lead to great power if utilized correctly!

As of Version 1.01, the following mods have compatibility features with this one:

• External Item Descriptions: All items, trinkets, and birthrights have descriptions.
• Encyclopedia: All items, trinkets, and birthrights have more detailed descriptions. The 2 characters are also described, adding… lore?!
• Fiend Folio, Retribution,Epiphany, Deliverance, Repentance+, The Sewage Collection, The Cursed Collection, Mastema, and Elijah: Items from all of these mods have a chance to spawn from Arcane Chests.

Considering that this mod was made for a 2 week long GameJam, there’s a lot of content we had to cut due to time. Maybe in the future, they will be uncut… but we shall see.
