Description:

This is a remake of my identical mod from Warhammer 2. It adds both normal Big ‘Un archers and a savage version, with roughly equivalent stats.

What is this?

A mod that adds a pair of new units for all Orc factions – a Big ‘Uns variant using longbows for both normal and savage orcs. While slow-firing and inaccurate, they pack a punch – and even have a scrap upgrade that gives them slightly better armor-piercing potential and a bonus versus large targets. While still not something that’s going to outshoot a proper, disciplined force of archers, they make up for it in sheer size – and being able to dropkick a horse if cavalry tries to flank them counts for something.

The units benefit from most techs and skills for both Arrer Boyz and Big ‘Uns, which I may adjust if it stacks too well and makes them overpowered.

Is it lore friendly?

Probably not? I mostly made it to try out animation editing, and because I wanted a cool unit for my Azhag campaign I was playing at the time.

But I’d like to think it isn’t lore-unfriendly, either. After all, some orcs do practice the bow – and who’s to say some enterprising Big ‘Un wouldn’t do so as well, albeit with an appropriately oversized weapon?

Is it balanced?

I think so! It may be a longbow with impressive range and high damage, but it’s still an Orc ranged unit – it won’t outshoot better, more professional ranged units of other factions, and it certainly won’t define your playthrough. It’s more of a nice bonus for Azhag or any other Orc army that might want to shoot some big arrows at things. I may tweak them to be more Bigga, particularly in sound and impact if I can figure that out.

It’s balanced for vanilla specifically, not SFO or other overhauls.

With thanks to Da Modding Den, for their assistance while I tried to puzzle out how to mod bows.
