Description:

NOTE: This mod requires Extended Marriage Doctrines by @kalanyr.

This mod adds some flavor by allowing you to promote (or demote) your consorts, take decisions in their disputes, and give your court some life. After all, what is a harem if no consorts are scheming to rise in the ranks?

If you want to read the details, check out this thread: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/threads/beta-mod-harem-politics.1564794/

This mod includes new character interactions, decisions, and events. So far, we have:

Harem management:

• Grand Consort: below one and above many, the Grand Consort has the second-highest position in the harem. They’ll help in managing it, or they can cause havoc. Only available for kings and above that can have more than one consort.

• Court amenities: Your main spouse and your Grand Consort will impact your court costs depending on their personality.

• Consort demotion: If your faith has the divorce always allowed doctrine, and if you’re allowed to have concubines, you can punish any spouse by making them a concubine. Depending on their position (main spouse, Grand Consort, or secondary spouse), they will have a negative character modifier. Naming a new Primary Spouse or revoking a Grand Consort position will count as a demotion, although their children will not gain the Child of Concubine trait.

• Children of spouses and concubines: Whenever you marry someone, all of your children with that character will lose the traits of Child of a Concubine, Wild Oat, Bastard, and Legitimized Bastard.

The opposite is also true: if you take a concubine, your children with them will gain the trait “Child of a Concubine” and lose the traits Wild Oat, Bastard, and Legitimized Bastard.

• Maiden/Bachelor Show: Some Asian realms, and the Byzantine Empire, hosted a bride show to choose consorts for the ruler or their children. Now, if you’re a duke and above, and your faith allows for polygamy or concubinage, or if you have East Slavic or Byzantine heritages, you can host a bachelor or maiden show (depending on your ruler’s sex). All of your vassals will send you their courtiers aged 15 to 22, giving preference to their relatives, and the game will pick 3 to present at your court.

Events:
• There are many events involving your harem. You consorts also have their own events so that while you’re busy ruling, your harem hierarchies create chaos, friendships, and deadly enemies.

Conflicts and bugs:
This mod will have conflicts with any other mod that alters character interactions, like setting a new primary spouse, and mods that add random events to the random_yearly_playable_pulse or on_death on actions.

04-17-2024 notes:
• Minor bug fixes.

04-13-2024 notes:
• There’s a new Harem Window where you can see your consorts ranked by status.
o The window is accessible through the decisions panel. Only rulers with 3 consorts or more can see it.
• Rulers can choose to visit their harem every 3 years. A random event will trigger when they do it.
• New events.
• Minor bug fixes.

03-30-24 notes:
– Updated for the 1.12 version.
– Legitimacy will now impact the harem: demoting and promoting consorts can affect legitimacy depending on the consort’s traits, whether they’re criminal or not, or if they’re lowborn.
– The Bride/Bachelor Show and the mourning cycle will now incorporate legitimacy in their options.
– Revoking the Grand Consort position won’t affect vassals’ opinions.
– For more details about this update, join the Discord server!

02-20-24 notes:
– Consorts will now try to ruin each other’s pregnancies.
– The bride/bachelor show will now require at least limited crown (or tribal) authority.
– For a price, rulers can now set parameters for the bride/bachelor show. The parameters are beauty, family background and skills and personality.
– Added a small event for rulers.

01 – 15 – 24 notes:
• Compatible with House Unity mechanics.
• Some event triggers have been relaxed.

10 – 12 – 23 notes:
• Minor changes to the AI.
• Frequency changes to consort events.

10 – 06 – 23 notes:
• If you’re playing as a vassal, your courtiers will participate in a bride/bachelor show.
• Rulers can pick up to 4 candidates in the bride/bachelor show if they have at least 9 vassals or if they rule over an empire.
• New events.
• A spouse who is the Grand Consort will become the main spouse if the previous main spouse was taken as a concubine by another ruler.
• Minor fixes to enhance efficiency.

09-17-23 notes:
• Bride/bachelor show candidates will appropriately join court if they’re hostages.
• Increased age limit for eligible candidates to 22.

09-16-23 notes:
• Compatibility fix for the 1.10.2 version.
• The AI is less likely to demote consorts that give them an alliance.

09-06-23 changes:
• The "Elevate to Grand Consort" interaction will be visible when a player has more than 0 gold.
• The same interaction will be unavailable to the AI.
• Improved character triggers to set scopes appropriately in events.

09-04-23 notes:
• Compatible with the latest patch and hostages.
• The traits Bastard, Legitimized Bastard, Disputed Heritage, Child of a Concubine, Wild Oat, and Bastard Founder will receive a slight negative opinion from courtly vassals. All of them, except Child of a Concubine, will also suffer a light negative opinion from zealot vassals.
• A secondary spouse with the Grand Consort position will succeed the primary spouse if the primary spouse dies.
• The Primary Spouse and the Grand Consort will have a greater impact on court amenities costs.
• Minor bug fixes.
• Rework in certain events and effects.
• Added a new mourning mechanic:
o There is a new game ruler to allow mourning. It is disallowed by default.
o When a ruler’s parent, spouse, or player heir (if the ruler is a duke or greater) dies, they can mourn for a year.
o The mourning option will only be available if the ruler is above 14 years old, and if they’re not expected to get married in the next 12 months (if they’re betrothed).
o If a ruler chooses to mourn, all of their consorts and courtiers such as children and knights will also mourn.
o Mourning blocks every ruler from getting married. Also, if a ruler has more than one spouse and the primary spouse dies, the new primary spouse will not help in the council for the mourning year out of respect for their predecessor.
• Added 5 new events for rulers and 2 for consorts.

06-21-23 notes:
• Added 3 new events for rulers.
• The option to recruit a candidate to court will properly work in the bride/bachelor show.
• If you divorce your main spouse, your Grand Consort will automatically become the main spouse if they’re also your spouse.
• A concubine Grand Consort will be upset with you if you marry another character.
• Minor bug fixes regarding the divorce and demotion of your consorts.
