Guv’s Dwarf Great Beards unit (WH2) (Update 2021-07-15)
Frequently Asked Question (FAQ): WORKS WITH SFO/Radious?
Frequesntly Answered (FA): Seriously, stop. I have really no clue.
Frequently Asked Question (FAQ): Ok, then make a compatible version?
Frequesntly Answered (FA): Sigh, absolutely not.
Ever felt like having a dwarf unit that really has an impact on the field? Felt like the Longbeards just don’t quite cut it? Ever wondered what it’s like for those really old grumblers who sit and brag about how the Greenskins were scarier back in the day?
I present to you, Great Beards!
- Adds a new unit to the Dwarfs roster, Great Beards. Along with a ROR variant, "Wardens of Karak Drazh".
- Functions with any lord skill or tech that should boost their type, along with some additional effects to spice them up in campaign.
Summary: The Great Beards are heavy hitters that can even challenge armoured units, heroes and lords toe to toe but suffers when being focused by more expensive units or ranged. Weak multiplayer pick, the Great Beards will see use on campaign runs as they benefit from a large variety of skills such as Grimnirs Heirs (+8 MA +12% WS) and Honoured by Grimnir (+15%PHSRES, +12% WS, +5MA at Rank 7 or above). Reaching high ranking with this unit later in the game once approprate technologies have been researched and Grombindal’s +3 ranks from Ancient Acumen, you will definently benefit from the effectiveness these units can dish out in battle.
When using them as the Dwarfs, focus on mid tier units to bash them while saving your higher tier units from wasting stamina and hitpoints. Alternatively, stick them within other units as they trade against another, they offer great help with their high armour piercing damage output. When fighting against them, use single unit/single character magics to waste them away or use armour piercing ranged units to make them crumble. Heavy armour piercing damage shreds the great beards too.
Pro’s and Con’s:
Pros
+ Splash damage!
+ High Damage and Armour piercing damage! Even more for Wardens of Karak Drazh!!
+ Benefits from the "Royal Guard", "Tales of Many Wars" technology and "Griminr’s Heirs" Lord skill!
+ Like Aspiring Champions, but better in damage output!
+ A free unit of of Great Beards as Garrison for Throne Hall of the High King!
Cons
– slow like any other dwarf.
– gets destroyed being focused, weak vs high damage magics and ranged.
– 16 men per unit. There are few Great beards in the old world.
– requires Throne Hall of the High King to recruit. very late game building in Karaz-A-Karak.
– expensive recruitment (800) and upkeep (200), compared to the Aspiring champions.
They should be savegame compatible. I do not see how there should be compatibility issues here.
