Description:

The intention of this Beyond Typus add-on is to adjust/tweak/change/overhaul/rework a wide variety of gameplay balance details in the interest of improving how the original game’s systems work with the many new provinces added in Beyond Typus, and also includes several other balance and gameplay adjustments according to my own preferences, generally in the interest of trying to make things more realistic, logical, and historical. This is a balance overhaul, but the goal is to still leave it feeling unobtrusive and like it is part of the original game.

Please note that this is what I might call an open beta. It should not contain any errors or bugs, but it also does not yet contain all the features/level of detail I eventually have planned for it. I also welcome suggestions.

Compatible with Europa Universalis IV version: 1.28

Known Bugs, Issues, Problems, & Complaints

None. Though be warned that the balance adjustments generally encourage what I feel to be historical/historically plausible balance, which in some cases means asymmetrical balances of power, making the game potentially easier, harder, and/or more frustrating (though hopefully more logical), it might not be for everyone. If you do encounter any true errors, please do report them and I’ll do my best to resolve the issue.

Compatibility

This is an addon for Beyond Typus, and has been optimally balanced for the Terrain Overhaul Addon for Beyond Typus as well, though it will still function with neither. Be warned that using this addon with the unmodded game will likely give European, Anatolian, and Muslim nations a slight unfair advantage. Also be aware that it is fully compatible with very few other mods which also adjust gameplay balance, though mod conflicts may result in anything from imperceptibly suboptimal balance (with most small, well written mods) to major errors (mostly for poorly written mods or major overhauls).

Old Save Compatibility?

This addon should not cause any technical issues (either by adding it or removing it), though it does alter gameplay balance and as such addition/removal of it mid-game may create some (hopefully not too drastic) balance issues (nations suddenly being under/over their force limits, or income/expenses changing noticeably).

Achievements?

Nope, it changes game files, sorry.

May I Use Your Work In My Mod?

Generally, my policy is you may use my work if I may use yours, but please do let me know if you plan to do so.

More Information

Contrary to my policy in the main mod, where I typically change as little as possible in vanilla systems, this addon significantly overhauls balance in several ways, hence the reason I am making this a seperate, and optional, addon. Here are some of the main features/changes:

  • Rebalance of the fort system – Generally, sieges should require smaller armies and be more random, though on average take a similar amount of time.
  • Rebalance of buildings – This is primarily a systematic and comprehensive overhaul of how the AI handles buildings, in the interest of improving building balance in BT. There are a number of adjustments and tweaks to the actually buildings, as well, however.
  • Rebalance of AI idea choices – A handful of minor and unobtrusive adjustments, mostly influencing how the AI chooses its ideas.
  • Adjustments to Technology – Adusted a few values like colonial ranges, or shock and fire bonuses, to hopefully make technology progression slightly smoother (and hopefully make the bonuses a more logical match the descriptions) while also optimising it for the Typus Orbis Terrarum projection used in Beyond Typus.
  • Adjustments to Estates – Changed a a few values for estates with the goal of making them slightly less annoying (and also slightly less exploitable). Eventually, I plan to improve how the AI handles estate interactions and overhaul some of the interactions themselves.
  • Unit Balance – Formerly a completely different addon, I’ve now merged Unit Balance with this BT Miscellanea addon. Generally the point is to improve the balance and distribution of pips and more closely follow the descriptions of the units themselves. Cavalry is also made slightly stronger in later years, to the point of being a (still more expensive) viable option to field, and anyone shooting things (spears, arrows, etc.) now deals fire damage, rather than shock.
  • Miscellaneous tweaks and adjustments – From the maximum die rolls in combat to the cost of enforcing vassalisation in war, from the chance of native uprisings to the penalties from war exhaustion, hundreds of vanilla values have been adjusted. The primary goals being historical plausibility and logical gameplay while taking into account the larger number of provinces in Beyond Typus.
