UNOFFICIAL HARDCORE MOD – DIVIDE ET IMPERA
This DeI submod is a compilation of the different difficulty submods I personally use, as well as a few new additions.
Intended for Hard campaign difficulty, but will work on VH and Legendary too.
Overall, these changes are especially geared to slow down and make the mid game more challenging, as that’s where most campaigns start snowballing fast.
- Slower cultural conversion.
- Higher Local Traditions across the board and takes majority culture of neighboring provinces into account, meaning higher thresholds before you become culturally dominant in foreign territory.
- Harsher public order penalty (cultural differences) across the board; Lower public order will further exacerbate this.
- Worse diplomatic relations (cultural affinity) between different cultures, depending on historical factors.

- Removes all AOR from Tier 1 Main Building chains.
- Main Building chain T2 only unlocks low tier AOR.
- T3 Main Building or T2 Immigrant Quarters will be required for high quality AOR.
- Removes elephant AOR from all minor settlement Main Buildings.

- Removes deployable defenses such as spike traps and obstacles. The AI is not programmed to use or play against them, and they can especially make siege defenses cheesy.
- Increased diplomatic penalties (expansionism) for mid game Imperium levels 2-5. Reaching Imperium 3 is often the point from which the player starts to snowball. This change will make diplomacy harder and make enemies more likely to declare war on you, without affecting factions that start out small.
- Slight increase to AI capital income, to hopefully allow them to make higher quality early armies.
