Description:
Passive development growth and decay.

This mod tries to make your nation’s development more automatic, rewarding tall or well defended nations while also punishing mistakes severely. Devastation can now be brutal to your nation’s development as you population flees or starves. (max devastation nearly guarantees that you will loose development each month tick)

This means forts and coastal defenses more useful and rebels are much more devastating 😉

How passive growth works

If the province is in a prosperous state and it is under 55 dev, it has a chance to tick up randomly in dip, mil or admin, roughly every 20 months.
Provinces with good modifiers, buildings, terrain etc grow faster. And ones with bad terrain, climates, weather or high dev cost, will grow slower.

Within the first couple of days after game start, a human player will get an event asking them to pick the difficulty level for devastation.
The two options are

  • Devastating Devastation – all provinces can go down to 1/1/1 development if they are continuously devastated
  • Easy Mode – Provinces cannot drop below the initial starting development (vanilla events might make this happen though)

Passive growth can happen as long as:

  • State is prosperous
  • Province is under 55 total dev
  • Province does not have a disease outbreak
  • Province has not been recently plundered in war
  • The province owner is not bankrupt
  • The province owner is not native (advanced native will grow)
How Development decay works.

Development decay can happen if:

  • The province has any devastation
  • With easy mode on, development loss will not happen if the province is at or below its initial starting dev.

Development loss has a base chance to happen every 10 months. With every 10 percent extra devastation, that chance is reduced by 1 month until at 90+ devastation, the chance of dev loss is once per month.

Poor terrain, disease, and weather also reduces the average by half a month (but it wont go below 1 month average)

Good terrain, food trade goods, or an un-blockaded port significantly reduce the chance of development loss.

The chance of loosing development is also significantly reduced if you have recently lost development to devastation or the province is below starting development

NOTE: Growth and decay events will occur in the background without a popup informing the player!
The event log will however show it and tell you which provinces got the increase or decrease.

This mod also adds some country events as well.

  • Golden Age Boom – An event that can fire during a golden age with a choice of either slightly increasing the growth tick chance across all states or a large chance increase in the capital state.
  • Spoils of Peace – An event that will increase the likelihood of a growth tick in a random stated province if the country has at least 2 stability and has been at peace for some time. Bonus is bigger the longer you have been at peace.
Compatibility

This mod shouldn’t conflict with other mods.
However other mods that change the above triggers and modifiers may affect how often the growth and decline events fire.
