Religio Romana
By popular demand, I made this version to work with vanilla.
You have? That’s oddly specific and unrealistic, but so have I. To start, Jan uploaded their Hellenic Polytheism mod back in 2015, and with their permission I updated it.
Harsh, but I didn’t simply update the mod. I also added more events and more decisions you can take. I personally was never a big fan of EU4’s "click button and that’s it" format, and I have always preferred CK2/3’s approach of having fun events occur so it is not so anticlimactic. This mod allows you to play as a country in the Latin or Byzantine culture group and bring back the old Pagan Gods through a decision (You can’t be the Pope or Defender of the Faith, and you must own either Rome or Athens). Afterwards, there are other decisions you can take like becoming the Pontifxex Maximus, restoring the Imperial Cult, and more! Currently it is setup so that the AI cannot do anything relating to the mod. I have to note that Jan made the mod to equally favor Greek and Roman Hellenism, and allowed for the ability to convert to another Pagan religion known as Sol Invictus. I am still pretty new to modding (this is the most amount of work I’ve put into a mod), so to make it easier on myself, I cut the Sol Invictus portion and have it far more focused on the Roman side of Hellenism. Overall, you can easily play as a Greek/Byzantine nation and get a lot of fun out of it, but it is definitely focused on Roman Paganism.
Again, harsh, but you are correct. I plan to add events from being the Pontifex Maximus, events involving the Vestal Virgins of Rome, The Auspex, and Roman holidays like Saturnalia. I want this mod to feel immersive similar to the incredible mod Third Odyssey . In doing so, I will have to likely have to remove the Greek naming system of the Gods to make sense with the narrative I am writing. All the mechanics will be the same, the only change would be as a Greek you would see the name "Jupiter" instead of Zeus.
For everything to look pretty and have no graphical errors, just Grand Exhibition . Technically, you don’t need this mod however, the only thing you will notice is the event pictures won’t fit in the event window.
Good! I love feedback. I haven’t put an immense of thought behind balancing, and I have done some bug testing. Of course, I’m sure there is room for improvement on both fronts. When I made the various bonuses you get from following the entire line of decisions, I build them based on what would make sense for the religion and the hypothetical scenarios in my head, and only checked for balancing a couple times. If you have a suggestion to better balance the mod, suggestions on how to make the mod better, or notice a massive bug or spelling error, please let me know and I will do my best to update the mod.
