The Bronze Bird Terrace was built in Yecheng in 210 during the late Eastern Han Dynasty. After the warlord Cao Cao defeated Yuan Shao and captured Yecheng, he commissioned the reconstruction of the city into his chief residence, including the splendorous Bronze Bird Terrace. The Bronze Bird Terrace had multiple structures connected with raised walkways, and had hundreds of rooms to hold feasts and accomdate female entertainers. The Bronze Bird Terrace was known for its poetic tradition, as Cao Cao brought his sons Cao Pi and Cao Zhi to the Bronze Bird Terrace, they wrote elaborate rhapsodies to mark the occasion. Nonetheless, the Bronze Bird Terrace did not stand the test of time, and left a somehow ironic legacy for poets of later generations: its rooftop tiles were reduced to high-quality inkstones for the literati, and its functions of holding feasts and accomodating female entertainers were distorted as an icon of Cao Cao’s lust for wives of his adversaries.

- That said, Chen Lin would still write his famous proclaimation even if recruited by Cao Cao. Maybe that is a unique way to cure headache?
