Description:
Krillin joins Rivals of Aether!

—–

Krillin comes with a very rushdown-focused playstyle which specializes in quick blows that allow him to follow up into large combos and take stocks quickly. His small stature and his wide range of movement tools allows him to easily close the gap between him and his enemy to dish out some pain. However, his ability to fight at a distance is limited, as Krillin only has access to Ki blasts and Destructo Disc at long ranges, making them committal to use and easy to play around. Krillin’s other disjointed attacks are also very slow, allowing for opponents to punish him if used improperly. Proper knowledge of your opponent and knowing when to go in will allow Krillin to maximize his strengths and claim victory!

Neutral Special: Ki Blast, Destructo Disc

This move has Krillin charge up and fire a Ki Blast overhead – hold Special to charge this move. Releasing Special before it is fully charged has Krillin fire a small Ki projectile instead, which deals weak knockback and damage, but travels fast. Fully charging the move has Krillin ready his signature move, Destructo Disk! You can unleash this powerful projectile by releasing Special, or you can store it for future use by pressing Parry to save it for a better opportunity to wreak havoc. Destructo Disc deals a lot of damage, knockback and hitstun for a big projectile – making it perfect for either starting combos or securing kills on opponents from afar!

Forward Special: Instant Dash

Krillin pauses in place before dashing forward at light speed, dodging attacks. You can angle Kirllin to go either up or down for additional vertical speed, but losing some horizontal speed as a result. Once Krillin reappears, you can attack out of the move with any of your aerials – but whiffing any of them will place you into pratfall, so attack accordingly! This move is useful as a quick burst option for getting across the stage to catch your opponent off guard, or as a way to recover – but using this at an improper range will allow your opponents to easily punish you. Try using this move, then using Down Air immediately afterwards to maximize horizontal distance for recovery (or just to get the jump on someone recovering) – just be sure to walljump out of it or hit someone.

Up Special: Jumping Ki Blast

Krillin fires a Ki blast under him, propelling him into the air. The blast has a strong hitbox that sends outward, while Krillin’s body has a weak hitbox when rising. Starting the move from the ground allows you to negate this move’s pratfall, allowing it to be a niche combo starter on correct DI reads. Like Forward Special, you can also attack out of this move’s endlag – but you’ll go into pratfall on whiff. This move is useful as a way to extend Krillin past what he normally would reach – just be careful not to overextend.

Down Special: Solar Flare

Krillin uses the Solar Flare technique as his Down Special – creating a blinding solar blast all around him! This move is great for setting up into your other moves, as it stuns opponents, making it a great option for doing a hard read. However, it has very high startup and endlag, meaning you can’t use it as a combo extender and can easily be punished by opponents who see it coming – use this wisely!

Some of Krillin’s normal attacks also have unique attributes to them:

Dash Attack

Krillin floats off of the ground and does a running kick. This move is unaffected by gravity, meaning you can float offstage with this move, allowing you to continue combos you otherwise wouldn’t normally be able to.

Down Air

Krillin dives at a downward angle with a flying kick. This move functions as a great horizontal movement option, as well as spiking your opponents and carrying them offstage to follow up with his other moves.

Up Tilt and Down Tilt

These moves seem super basic on a surface level – but Krillin can cancel the endlag of these moves with a jump if he successfully lands a hit with them, making them excellent ways to start combos.

Krillin also comes with a full set of Abyss Runes, giving him access to a wide range of alternate abilities, such as increasing the range of Solar Flare, allowing him to teleport to enemies during hitstun, creating shockwave blasts with Down Strong, and even throwing a stone that gets stronger once gravity kicks in!
