Kingdoms of America is an alternate history modification centered exclusively (at present) on North America. It revolves around a premise wherein the Vikings from Northern Europe wielded a more significant influence on the populace of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence and the entire continent.

MOD IS IN A VERY EARLY DEVELOPMENT STAGE

This mod is a hobby project, so don’t expect it to have regular updates, or a full release.

Events that lead to the American Golden Age

Upon the discovery of Greenland, Norse explorers ventured further westward, encountering Helluland (Baffin Island), Markland (Labrador), and Vinland (Newfoundland). Recognizing the comparative hospitality of Vinland and Markland over Greenland, Viking settlers established initial settlements in these regions, with the largest among them located in present-day L’Anse aux Meadows (Kjalarnes). Despite their small numbers, they received assistance from the local Beothuk, trading Norse tools, agricultural and mining techniques, boats, and metallurgical knowledge in exchange. The few christians the Norse have brought along with them had slightly influenced the indigenous belief systems, making their religions spread outside of their local communities, transitioning into a more centralized religion similar to that of the Catholic Church. However, the introduction of European diseases, particularly smallpox, triggered a devastating epidemic among the Beothuk, spreading rapidly along the East Coast and eventually reaching the western reaches of the continent, decimating indigenous populations. In response, the Beothuk, aided by the Mi’kmaq and Innu, retaliated against the European newcomers, successfully driving them from their settlements. The displaced settlers migrated to the Nýr Stafangr Islands (Magdalen Islands), where they remained for the subsequent three centuries. By the 1440s, North American tribes had significantly advanced technologically compared to their historical counterparts, experiencing substantial societal development and mastering the reverse-engineered European technology. Now, being formidable opposition, they present a considerable challenge to expansionist powers from the East.

Progress and Plans

I’m currently focusing on fleshing out the East Coast, mainly the Northeastern parts, they need some flavor and what not. After finishing the missions and custom ideas for the region, and maybe adding some new mechanics, I’m going to go ahead and start populating more portions of the map and fleshing-out these new regions as well.

When it comes to other parts of the American continent, I have no idea if i’m going to touch South America at all, I feel like it is too far away for the societal and political changes of North America to affect the south in any way. On the other hand I may tweak around with the Mesoamerican region, as it is the closest to the indigenous tribes north of Mexico, and increased trade with the "High Americans" would have influenced it in some way or another.

NOTE: Keep in mind this is Alternate History. Most of the things added are INACCURATE because of the lack of knowledge, gameplay or just because. Some province names may not make sense linguistically, because of my lack of knowledge in the field of Indigenous Languages. The same goes for cities and other names of native origin. If you have any expertise in this field and wish to help with the naming of provinces, feel free to message me, your help is needed.
