[KET] Merchants Gold
This mod adds a new Decision for borrowing gold from the realm merchants, compromising to pay the loan back in 5 years with interest or suffer severe prestige and stressful consequences.
IMPORTANT: While inspired by the original "Borrow Money from Merchants" mod, I have completely rebuilt and expanded the mechanics from the ground up. After 3 years of privately updating and improving the mod for personal use, I am proud to finally share this enhanced version with the entire community.
With the merchant loan decision adding more depth to CK3’s economic systems, this mod makes struggling with finances much more immersive. Please enjoy this rebuilt loan experience!
The merchant loan mechanic is designed for simplicity and realism:
– Rulers can use a decision to request a loan from Merchants and borrow 300 gold.
– Taking the loan costs some prestige and stress, and you gain the "Gold Lender" temporary trait (Stewardship +1).
– You then have 5 years to repay the loan plus interest, totaling 350 gold.
– If you fail to pay back in time, there are consequences – severe prestige loss, more stress gained, and the "Gold Lender" trait becomes "Past Due Lender" (Stewardship -4).
– This negative trait remains until you finally settle the payment, simulating real-world impacts of loan default.
With easy loan access but real penalties for missing payments, the system creates engaging risk/reward trade-offs when you need quick funds. The traits also let you roleplay the stigma of defaulting. This makes struggling with finances much more immersive!
