Realistic Europa
Development on this mod is finally done. I have no more plans for it because I play EU5 now and I have uninstalled EU4. Since some people don’t like EU5, if anyone would like to do any work with this mod, send me a message. I will eventually make an EU5 mod to do much of the same as I did with this one because I’ve already found a bunch of things I’d like to make more accurate. But I will probably wait until Paradox releases a few major updates first, so don’t expect to see anything for many months. Plus, I don’t spend as much time on my computer as I used to.
Until then,
God Bless

This mod is a mini overhaul of the European continent, making it look more realistic to the time period and adding modern and Victorian Era borders while keeping a vanilla feel to the game. I have worked throughout Europe, around the Mediterranean, and in eastern North America, but the most significant changes are in central Europe. In total, I’ve added 99 provinces and 18 countries. I HIGHLY recommend using a mod that makes the province and country borders thinner, like Parm’s Map Graphics. Otherwise, the tiny provinces can be hard to see.
- Expanded the state UI because many states now have more than 5 provinces. I also moved the state UI so you can see both the province and state views simultaneously.
- Reduced the development of many provinces around the world to better scale the historically empty land with actual cities.
- Replaced some of the default insults and all of the loading screen tips with my own. No one reads them anyway.
- Extended the end date of the game to January 28th, 1871, the day the Franco-Prussian war ended, to stretch the game into the Victorian Era. In addition, I have added an 1836 Victorian Era start date and level 33 (1835) and 34 (1850) technologies.
- Minor changes to some mission trees, decisions, and localizations.
- Added a few decisions to form Württemberg, the North German Confederation, the South German Confederation, and the German Confederation. The North and South Confederations are cosmetic only. The German Confederation uses the Germany mission tree and cultural disunity mechanic, but has its own national ideas and government type.
- Halved the base time of seige phases from 30 to 15 days for more realistic siege lengths (most real life sieges only took a few months, weeks, or even days, not years).
- Reduced the cost of a cavalry regiment from 25 to 20 ducats.
- Breakthrough: gave infantry 10% and cavalry 20%.
- Increased the max warscore from battles from 40 to 50 and increased the battlescore bonus from 3 to 5 to make battles a bit more influential in a war’s outcome (many historical wars only had a few major battles and minimal occupation but still created major changes in the geopolitical landscape).
- Reduced the time combat has to last until a retreat is possible to 7 days.
- Doubled the yearly army drill gain speed from 10 to 20 and increased the army drill loss speed from 1 to 5.
- Decreased the average time for generals to gain a skill point while drilling from 120 months to 36 months to make skill improvement more prevalent and meaningful (and to help with crappy generals).
- Reduced the manpower that is returned to a nation’s pool from a stackwipe from 50% to 25% to mimic large numbers of desertions and prisoners.
- Increased unit speeds: artillery is 0.8, infantry is 0.9, and cavalry is 1.0 (all base values are 0.7).
- Doubled the max attrition from 5% to 10%. Also increased attrition and reduced province supply limits during winter (winters and attrition were much bigger killers than this game portrays).
- Increased the bonuses given from having high army professionalism and drilled armies.
I’ve incorporated some pieces of mods into this one (or just used them as starting points for my own changes) so my friends and I don’t need to install as long of a list of mods. So credit where credit is due, these mods include:
- (Outdated) States UI by Tazhel
- Reborned Military by LoXyO
- Cmushi’s Simpler Terms Mod [Updated] by Viegnar
- Some of the flags and history for the new nations I made are from Voltaire’s Nightmare because I couldn’t find them anywhere else
From what I’ve gathered in the past, the mod sometimes doesn’t like to update properly. Switching back and forth between different mods might also cause problems. Going through this list of troubleshooting methods should clean up any residual issues you may have (I recommend doing all of these regardless):
- Set this mod to load first in your mod playset in the game launcher
- Check for incompatibility with other mods you use
- Verify the integrity of your game files: Right click EUIV in Steam -> click Properties -> Installed Files -> Verify integrity of game files
- Make sure no betas (older versions of the game) are enabled for EUIV. The version displayed in the launcher should be 1.37.5: Right click EUIV in Steam -> click Properties -> Betas -> Beta Participation -> None
- Unsubscribe from my mod, clear your download cache in the Steam settings (click Steam in the top left corner of the steam app -> Settings -> Downloads -> Clear Download Cache -> Clear Cache), then resubscribe to the mod
- Do a full clean reinstall of the game (A link on how to do this if you need it)
(Note: A common crash I do know about is in the institutions tab: clicking on older, already embraced institutions sometimes crashes the game. I don’t know why because I never touched institutions, so I can’t do anything to fix it)
