FSO Warszawa Ghia (1959 Prototype)
In 1959, The Passanger Car Factory in Warsaw, Poland, aimed to update their aging FSO Warszawa M-20, itself a licensed copy of the Soviet GAZ M-20 Pobeda, a design which’s technicals and aesthetics originated from the time of The Second World War. FSO desired to update it with a new look to keep it up with the times.
They sent two undercarriages of their vehicle to the italian company Carrozzeria Ghia, famous for its VW beetle sports version.
What returned from italy were two prototypes of a modern design, one sedan and one estate, alongside a documentation and models of the needed toolsets as well as examples of body panels, so that it may be prepared for mass production.
This, of course, never happened, as the costs to bring such a vehicle to production, as well as its own production costs, were too much for the fledging Varsovian car industry.
In the end, the two examples were sent to the Centre of Research and Progress in Falenica, where they stood until getting scrapped in 1976-1978.
That’s for you to find out! Or, maybe make them yourself in your own little republic!
