Description:
【Economic Hegemony Series】Global Trade

The 19th century was an era of prevalent global trade, a time when countries around the world were transitioning from mercantilist trade ideas to liberalism. Governments commonly used administrative and military power to interfere in trade and colonization, aiming to "capture the greatest wealth" from global trade. The income obtained from trade also held a significant portion in the finances of countries during the 19th century.
In the original version of the game, different trade policies mainly differ in tariff rates. This mod adds and strengthens trade-related mechanisms, enriching the means of intervention and ways for governments to benefit from trade under different trade policies.

Features

1、More Rational Regional Markets
A country’s economic development inevitably involves collaboration and contribution from various regions within, and regional trade is the specific manifestation of inter-regional cooperation. However, the current local market mechanism loses a tremendous amount of money out of thin air, significantly reducing the efficiency of economic development. Now, the price differences between trades across regions are calculated as trading profits and distributed to the local pop.

2、More Frequent World Trade
The 19th century was the time of the first and second industrial revolutions. Massive amounts of industrial raw materials were transported from colonies worldwide to the European continent, and an abundance of industrial products were dumped into Asia and the New World. European countries also frequently traded with each other. Under the huge demand of the global market, Europe will set up a series of factories.

3、Richer Trade Returns
Many countries in the 19th century still adhered to mercantilist ideas. Under mercantilism, tariffs, business charters, and armies are the means for states to extract benefits from trade, while trade itself is an important way to expand national influence.

Specific Changes

1、Regional Markets
Regional markets are one of the most criticized aspects in the current community. Paradox designed market price influence parameters that ensure differences in commodity prices between regional and national markets. However, the price difference amounts mysteriously disappear. This mod introduces a new regional market building as a centralized trading place for each region. All the price difference amounts generated from external regional trades are calculated as trading profits and distributed among the pops in the regional market.

2、Trade Laws
Trade laws determine the overall direction of a country’s trade development. This mod hasn’t made many changes to trade laws, but they remain the core of the entire trade system, determining the trade tools available to governments. The focuses of various trade laws are as follows:

Mercantilism: Emphasizes the growth of monetary wealth. The nation focuses on the trade industry chain (e.g., trade centers, shipbuilding, railways) and any highly profitable industries (e.g., luxury goods, addictive products). Utilizing state violence, it aims to expand its share in the international market as much as possible, achieving the initial accumulation of capital;
Trade Protectionism: Emphasizes the development of domestic industries. The nation pays attention to enhancing industrial capabilities (e.g., heavy industry, mining, railways) and uses administrative means to strengthen the survival of its industries while expanding them to a larger scale. However, this may also hinder industrial innovation (reducing technological dissemination);
Liberalism: Emphasizes the free development of markets. The nation focuses on maintaining healthy market operations, intervening only in strategic industries (e.g., railways), while leaving other resource allocations to the market, aiming to achieve optimal economic efficiency;
Isolationism: Emphasizes maintaining the autonomy of the national market. The nation focuses on the internal circulation of the domestic market, avoiding influence from external environments.

3、Franchise Rights
Franchise rights have been an important means for governments to intervene in economic trade since the Middle Ages up to the 19th century, and also a significant channel for extracting profits. Although the preference for franchise rights gradually faded with the rise of liberalism, they still held an important position in the early to mid-19th century.

Franchise rights mainly exist in two types:

Regional Franchise Rights: These are rights for regional monopolies, such as the monopoly trade rights held by the British East India Company in its territories. They increase the economies of scale for buildings, enhance throughput, and increase input. Franchise fees are collected based on the building level.
Resource Franchise Rights: These are rights for key resources, such as the usage rights of land along the routes of the U.S. Pacific Railway. They reduce the input required for buildings but also reduce throughput. Franchise fees are collected based on the building level.

4、Fleets and Armies
Military force is a very convenient and direct means for governments to intervene in international trade.

Land Army
Control Colonies: Deploy land forces to the nation’s colonies to control the territory, drive away the local population, and expedite the colonization process;
Protect Colonies: Station land forces in the nation’s colonies to suppress local uprisings, enforce labor, and provide a continuous supply of raw materials for the nation’s industry, increasing throughput in unincorporated areas.

Naval Fleet
Arm Trade Routes: Use force to seize a larger market share for the nation’s merchant fleet, strengthening route defense and enhancing trade competitiveness;
Protect Trade Routes: Focus on protecting the nation’s trade routes, creating a safe and favorable condition for the development of national commerce, strengthening route defense, increasing trade volume, and adding free trade routes.

These production methods will require the consumption of corresponding munitions, thus also sustaining a large part of the arms industry during peacetime.

5、Others
Enhanced AI’s interest in international trade;
Reduced the administrative power needed for trade routes;
Increased the maximum level of trade routes;
Increased the number of merchant ships produced by ports;
Ports can slightly accelerate the dissemination of technology.
