Description:

My explosive dynamic music mix. Contains over 330 tracks of b*tchin’ music tracks handpicked and edited by me from various action games. Intended to enhance your experience while you’re playing objective-based maps.

This mix works differently than other Action Music mixes and cannot be used properly by just subscribing to it, please read the instructions below on how to set it up properly.

HOW TO SET UP THIS MIX [UPDATED 10/13/2023]:

This Action Music Mix DOES NOT have "Battle" tracks! It instead only uses "Battle_Intensive" and "Ambient". This is intentional as Half Life 2’s pacing is all over the place, meaning that you’ll constantly switch from Battle to Ambient to Battle to Ambient… and it gets annoying quickly.

In order to solve this pacing issue and make the mix work, after you subscribe to this addon MAKE SURE to change some of Action Music’s default console commands to this:

  • cl_am_enabled_battle 0 – NECESSARY as this mix DOES NOT have "Battle Tracks".
  • cl_am_enabled_background 0/1 – Up to preference. With 0, you’ll only hear combat tracks when appropriate. With 1, you’ll hear ambient tracks which will switch to combat when appropriate and vice versa.
  • cl_am_enabled_battle_intensive 1 – NECESSARY!
  • cl_am_enabled_suspense 0 – NECESSARY as this mix DOES NOT have "Suspense Tracks" as of the 10/13/2023 update.
  • sv_am_enemy_threshold 2 – Music will only play when you’re targeted by 3 or more enemies. You can change this if you’re not happy with this value.
  • sv_am_hidden_time 15 – Since music now plays on fewer occasions, whenever it does play it should remain intensified for longer before switching to Ambient. You can change this if you’re not happy with this value.
  • cl_am_fadetime_mult 0.25 – Smoother transitions when dynamic music kicks in.
  • sv_am_targeted_timer 15 – Same as sv_am_hidden_time. You can change this if you’re not happy with this value.

Once you apply these console commands, you’re pretty much done. The dynamic music now works like this:

– With ambient tracks disabled, when you’re exploring around a safe area, there’s no music at all, just like Half Life 2.

– With ambient tracks enabled, music plays at all times.

– When you’re targeted by less than 3 enemies, combat music will still not kick in. This also helps with the inconsistent pacing.

– When you’re targeted by more than 3 enemies, combat music kicks in and will not cool down until you’re relatively safe again, even if there’s less than 3 enemies around.

Features:
  • 188 Combat and 144 Ambient tracks! Handpicked and edited by me, someone who pays a lot of attention to music and sound design.
  • The music tracks come from A LOT of various games with b*tchin’ soundtracks, most notably:

    – Deus Ex Series
    – Unreal Series
    – Swat 4
    – Half Life Series
    – Black Mesa
    – Yakuza Series
    – Payday Series
    – Gunner Heat PC
    – Indie Composers

Among other games too. This mix took about a month to complete, adding onto it little by little every day.

  • Most of the music tracks have been mixed to cut straight to their intensified part for that maximum ACTION!
  • ALL of the music tracks have had their volume levels rebalanced so their volume is roughly the same and not some louder and some quieter.
  • The tweaks of this mix and how it works were created after a lot of careful playtesting and brainstorming on how to fix Half Life 2’s inconsistent pacing issue when it comes to dynamic music. So far, I’ve been happy with this solution.

Limitations:
  • You can’t use this mix as a traditional Action Music mix. If you instead want to use it like that, you’ll need to download this addon’s music files manually and add them to your "Battle" and "Ambient" folders on your Garry’s Mod copy.
  • Don’t keep both of my Action Music mixes active as they’ll conflict with one another.
  • You CAN’T use this mix with other mixes installed as this one works differently from the rest.
  • This mix works best and was intended to be used when playing Half Life 2 Objective Based maps.
