Description:

The growth of passenger flows in the cities of the USSR at the end of the 1960s led to the need to use tram trains, in which the RVZ-6 could not be coupled – the car had neither a trailed modification nor the ability to work on CME, despite the theoretical possibility of such use due to its RKSU (although in Kharkov local craftsmen were able to independently build a CME train from two RVZ-6M). Therefore, in 1974, a second modernization of the RVZ-6 was carried out, which allowed them to operate as part of CME trains. This option received the factory designation RVZ-6M2 and the index 71-17 in the unified naming system for tram and metro rolling stock.

RVZ-6M2 (71-17) – it became possible to work on CME in a composition of 2 and 3 cars. Built from 1974 to 1987, 3,110 cars were built. Above the headlight and under the rear staircase to the roof, two sockets in a rectangular stamping appeared for connecting inter-car cables, the skirt at the ends was removed, and the RVR emblem was moved to the right side of the car behind the first door. In turn, RVZ-6M2 can also be divided into early and late sub-modifications. They differed in the controller circuit and could not be combined into one train according to CME – in the later modification, the number of inter-car cables was reduced and the socket at each end remained alone in a square stamping. In addition, from 1983-1984. on the RVZ-6M2 the upper chrome molding was no longer installed, and since 1985 the lower one was no longer installed.
